92 Slo rack vs 92 SHO rack question...

What exactally is the difference I forget.... SLO racks between 89-95 are one PN, and the 89-92 non-vaps SHO's are another... was the slo rack a bit more 'loose' of a ratio? SHO being a tighter as far as lock to lock turns being smaller... ?

$100 would be nice to save ya know..

I posted this question not too long ago, and didn't get an answer. I called atsco before posted. They told me they are the same pinion so the same ratio. He told me the tie rods are different lengths, and i'd never be able to align the car. He gave me an attitude when I said i'd probably be able to align it. I don't believe I couldn't get it aligned or do it myself if I had the place to, but I really don't know.

The SHO rack has a little less assist, IIRC, and a lower turns ratio. Also, there are two nylon spacers at the ends of the rack, so that when you turn full lock you don't rub your wheels against the car.

The only difference is the SHO rack has two bumpers to limit wheel travel so the fatter tires don't rub the wheel well at the limit. it also helps the SHO have the turning radius of a battleship.

I would install the SLO rack.

I was just looking at an exploded pic and was wondering if I could do that... I'm just wanting to order a rack just incase its leaking under the boots where I can't see. I know its time for the inner tie rods, and with 220,000 miles on the rack I figured it was about due.

My pressure hose has been seeping for a while now, so its hard to tell if my rack is really leaking.... where do they generall leak from? Probally behind the boot I would imagine?

My experience has been that a leaking rack will show evidence on the garage floor. Inner rod ends wear little because their range of movement is small.

Well, I have yet to ever notice my level drop.... I've never had to add anything to it, but I know my hoses are soaked, so maybe what I'm seeing is just trailing down the hoses.. sounds like I may just replace the inner tie rods and call it good.

In my first sho, before I knew anything. I thought my play was in the inner tie rods, but my rack was the culprit. I replaced the tierods, and still had play. The car had 200k on it.
I just drove it like that. Luckily catastrophic rack failure isn't that common.
My car I have now has 100k, and it appears that the hoses are seeping, but I never have to add. I'm about to do the clutch and i'm planning on leaving them and the rack.

And these limiters, nylon spacers, bumpers, or whatever you want to call them, are usually destroyed on your rack anyway. Mine looked like crap and were hanging on for dear life, so I just installed the SLO rack without them. If you must have them, I'm sure you can find something at Home Depot or just pony up the extra $100 or so that they charge for them in the SHO rack. (they're under the boots)

If it's the pressure line, it will leak more when you turn the wheel. And every time you turn that wheel, you will make the pin hole bigger (suggesting it's not a leak at the threads). It won't take long before that leak starts squirting out fluid every time you turn. Been there, done that, and suggest replacement asap before you have a big mess!
