I got a 90 mtx I'm putting into a 91 ranger. I already know because of the year difference nothing is gonna math up so I thought about running the motor and what it needs on its own system and doing the same with the truck. Questions are:

Bad idea?
How do I make sure both computers think nothing's wrong
Is there a guide somewhere to making the sho gauge cluster work in my ranger? I've poked around and can't find much. Ranger also has an oil temp gauge that the sho doesn't, is there a way to make that work or should I just remove the sensor and tape off the wire at the gauge?

In order to accomplish this, you will need to figure out the wiring required for each of the computers and gauges, so it seems like extra work to try to keep the Ranger pcm in there.

You will need the Ford wiring diagrams for both the 90 SHO and the 91 Ranger. I have found that stuff on ebay within a reasonable amount of time when I needed it.

The Ranger oil pressure gauge sender is just a switch that closes when the pressure gets to 5 or 7 psi and the gauge either reads low or fine, its not a real gauge, so you can use that sender on the SHO motor to accomplish the same result.

I just wanted to keep all my creature comforts without having to rewire the entire truck. Thanks for the info, I'll start at some diagrams then get to work

just to help with expectations - when I put the fi 5.0 into the RX7, I spent more time on the wiring than I did on the mechanical stuff. When I was done, it all worked like factory (except it went like a bat outta heck).

I was thinking along those lines, glad to know I'm right and that it can be done. I just wanted my expectations to be in order and to know if I was gonna find a showstopping surprise or not
