'90 Sho front wheel bearings...

Are the front wheels bearings in these cars specific to the SHO model, or are they the same as the regular taurus? The Shogun uses a quartet of Sho Taurus front knuckles, and I need to replace a bearing in the front of the car. I don't really trust reliability of the information from your typical over the counter parts store.

Yep, same. Same bearing even used in Windstar, Thunderbird, etc. Only the control arms have different part numbers for SHO, maybe more reinforced, but it's all standard Taurus fitment.

There's some change after Jan 1991, maybe in the hub or the snap ring, but still the same bearing.

If you want to gamble on something not Timken or NSK, Rockauto has a bearing for under $2.

There's a desirable tool set that I haven't seen as a loaner anywhere, a DIY bearing press, but it's a lot of extras to purchase when you just need just one size to press out and another size to press the new bearing back in.

Thought of giving the SHOGun the front stopping power of a 1996-1999 SHO? If you have 16" wheels, you also might investigate the 11.6" brake upgrade, using the knuckle and caliper from a 94-95, and the rotor and bracket + pads from a 2001-2007 Taurus.

I appreciate all the info here.

$2 wheel bearings......not sure where I'd trust anything with a $2 bearing in it hahah! Being what the car is I have no problem spending a couple hundred for good bearings vs cheap units. Timken, SKF, etc are my preferred choices just due to how much of a PITA it is to get back at the bearings when(not if) a cheapo fails prematurely. We've all been there before.

Tools.....I cheated. I have a full machine shop in my company and just burned out the required press plates and adaptors in my machines. hah!

And as far as the brakes go, this particular Shogun had the brakes updated quite awhile back to Baer PBR calipers and 12.5" rotors on all 4 corners, and a Tilton bias bar twin MC setup to adjust brake bias. However it has(had) no power brake booster and was a heavy pedal, so I just recently ditched the Tilton twin master setup and installed an OE booster and Wilwood single master with bias adjustment for more streetability. I no longer plan to race the car anymore so the racing setup isn't really required now.

Rockauto has had some insane deals on clearance stuff, so its not an indication of the original price or quality. It is likely a store re-brand of a popular bearing. Got some $3 spark plug wires - ones that would have cost $50. Also they have pre-94 brake pads and rotors for pennies on the dollar.

Yeah, Nick did several fronts for me over the autocross years. As the suspension tune got more radical with front negative camber (and it was my daily driver too) we found that the OEM lasted much longer than aftermarket brands.
