I bought the car in February 21st my stepdad owns a 93 SHO. He got me in this mess just now finishing the blower motor heater core and fixing the crack in my dash. It was from Texas and has a single spot of rust near the trunk i guess its a common issue since moisture gets in the inside of the panel. Other than that shes perfect (minus the crappy paint). This forum has helped me and my step dad a lot. He's kinda jealous of my first gen though.

Welcome in! Post pics when you get a chance. I might know where a police grille is but haven't decided if I want it yet or not.

I’ll get a new photo of the dash and it in good lighting I’m gonna get my license next Friday hopefully I don’t crash this car I think everyone on this forum would **** me if I did so. Other than that I plan on making it faster doing so work on exhaust and intake and such. Already have the smaller underdrive pulley

Couple of things.

Start hiding money in a SHO fund. Your car is 30 years old. It is a fringe model and parts are coming harder to find. They are also becoming more expensive.

I personally would get a crappy daily driver (I say Civic). They get great mileage, they are dirt cheap to fix, and they run forever. This serves two purposes. First it saves wear and tear on your SHO, and it will make you appreciate your SHO more. I dont daily my SHO, because of these reasons.

Is your SHO an auto or a manual? Manuals with new drivers can be tricky. The number rule that should be preached to new drivers is, "You are not a racecar driver, regardless what you think". You are not the STIG, don't act like it. Drive sensibly. General effery will be abound with youth, however your right foot controls the loud pedal, which controls what the vehicles does.

The SHO in 89 was state of the art. However, she is an old girl now. Newer vehicles are faster, stop better, and handle better now....period. Be sensible and drive offensively.

All GenI's are manual trans only. Other than that I agree with all of the above. This isn't a good vehicle for a younger owner..unless.. you are good with repairs. You are already tackling repairs so maybe you have the time and tenacity to own one of these. Welcome aboard!

I am ready for this I knew what I was getting into in the first place I learned to drive a manual on my mom’s car and I know that third gear is the power gear and that bang shift or any other shift than granny shifting will hurt the trans my stepdad made that mistake before and had to find the synchros outta of one that spit the dif pin out I also know not to do one wheel peels. The beater idea isn’t actual a bad idea. And I need to start a fund too. I also would like to say I’m very sensible for being 16 I know this car is a work of art. I can make repairs to it and I was ready for it. And I get your concern with this it’s a first gen and they are getting harder and harder to find and I plan on babying her. And the problem with two cars is I’m 16 and my parents make the rules I would buy a beater but currently that’s not option a great idea though.

I wish you the best. At 19 I bought my 93 SHO and it crippled me financially and that was in 2003/2004.

Yay I plan on when summer hits to do 40 hours a week just for the car keep it in great condition I have already drilled and tapped a transmission drain plug and plan on changing it every 2,000 miles. If you have anything else to recommend fluid wise to keep her running longer please tell me anything that’ll help

Personally, on a car with unknown history, getting both the front and top end 60K services would be at the top/near the top of my list. Along with changing out ALL fluids - you have already tackled the MTL part, the coolant, power steering and brake fluid are just as important.

Suspension and checking for rust is next on the list.

Brakes - how much life remaining. Use Valvoline Full Synthetic DOT3/4 as a replacement fluid.

You can look through the shophoenix website to get a good headstart, if you have not already.

As far as driving, learning not to be lazy with the shifter is important. Avoid stop&go traffic whenever possible, that really is a killjoy with an MTX.

Welcome, enjoy, street race nobody and keep an eye on the SHOcago section, you're kinda close and we meet up every couple of years. Rumors of convention in July not far from you in Ohio.
