I installed an in dash 7" dvd player in my 89 and have had nothing but problems with it.When i got it i put it in my 94 Blazer with no problem but when i put it in the SHO thats when i started to notice some strange stuff.1st thing was when i put it in the antenna acted as a ground, then when i use either the AM or the dvd the radio will reset itself.Im wondering if it has something to do with the power antenna.Anyone have any experience with this????

nope wires are fine...trust me i know what im doing when it comes to this...im just wondering where the antenna is acting as part of the ground that it may be givng the radio a little too much juice to handle thereby making it reset almost like a circuit breaker...

Mabye you need to "shield" some of the wires. EX: when you get an alternator wine throught the speakers.

That's physically impossible. Adding another path to ground (or to positive either) will never make a device draw more current.

thats true but im almost convinced that the power antenna may have something to do with this....i may try unplugging the harness to the motor to see if anything changes.I just find it strange that the antenna would serve as a ground along with the ground wire in the harness....

Chris I'm not sure I understand why:

a) you're concerned that the antenna could possibly be acting as a secondary ground and

b) why a second ground would make a difference in the operation of your new DVD player as you describe. I'd think that you could run 2,469 grounds and it wouldn't make a difference at all.

Now if you're somehow tapped into the switched hot side powering the antenna to draw from to power your DVD... THAT'd make more sense to me than any extra ground ever would.

Good luck with that.

:)

Well, if you think it's the antenna causing it, then try unhooking that wire and running it to a power source that is only on when the key is on and see if your problem clears up.

Good that you figured out the problem. It could've been the wiring to the modulator & if thats fine then the modulator itself could be damaged and causing the problem.
