My gas Gunge does not work in the 89 all that well. Before I replace the whole fuel pump assembly, I'm just curious what Gas tank size came in a 89. I know some SHO's had Slow 16 Gallon tanks, I'd like to know if this happened much with 89's.

I have the big tanks in mine, 18.6 gallon.

Don't forget the 89 cluster has an independant fuel guage that can go out of whack and stop working all together. To fix this, you'll need to buy a new one from the dealer if they have those, or pull one from the back of a cluster in the junkyard. They plug in.

I'm not exactly sure of my size. I ram my car at the bottom of the red line one day and when I filled it at the way I forced $52 in at $3.67 a gallon and gas was pouring out, it was that full but it was at almost 15 gallons to fill it, but how would you find that out?

Don't remember ever hearing of any '89's that didn't have the 18.6 tank. All 5 of my '89's had it.

There should be only two stock types, and that would be the 18 and the 16. If you can fill up past 16, you have a big one. If you run it damn near out of gas and you can only get it up to 15 and change then you probably have a 16 gallon.

Or possibly some weasels living in your 18.6 gallon tank. You never know.

I thought the second generation SHO's were the ones with the small tank possibility. That and the not so good fuel pump, especially the automatics.

I don't about how many gallons are left when the light comes on but I'm not going to see if I can squeeze about 60 more miles at the bottom of E and risk the chance of getting stuck somewhere and/or burn up my fuel pump. Besides my gas needle acts faulty after half tank soooo I wont risk it. Not unless someone can tell me what wrong with my gas needle then I might consider it... Nah its not worth the money and safety to get stuck somewhere. Besides what is the maximum mileage you have gotten out of a tank?

Over 400, but who cares?

If your gauge is f-d up, don't go over 300 miles until you fill up.
