I wonder how it would register the fiber lining, or the surface under the lining?
the syncros appear to be cast, only the inner friction surface was machined before the lining was attached.

I know the blue LED is accurate enough to register finger prints so it should snow the rough surface. Unless the separation from the liner and brass is clear it may need to be manually measured.

Folks . . . the > synchronizers < are sliding assemblies that would be the hardest to reproduce, they are multipart high tolerance assemblies. Since the teeth on these synchronizers are steel, it is the brass "synchronizer blocking rings" that mate to them that (usually) wear first.

Call them "blocking rings", when you call the "synchros" it confuses the issue.

I have a 3-4 blocking ring in a Ford bag at home will post all the numbers I can find on it tonight (E9DZ-7107-B)

The Ford bag PJ pictured is the 5th gear blocking ring.

Just sent my very last 1-2 blocking ring to my trans rebuilder last week ( E9DZ-7107-A). Will ask him to report the numbers on the Ford bag.

Also have a frozen/broken 1-2 synchronizer that could be photographed.

Zak, i have been using the term synchro ring sets when discussing it with Mazda... and gave part numbers so we should be good on getting correct part identification... but good looking out man!

So I found the NOS 3-4 blocking ring part no. E9DZ-7107-B
It is a carbon paper lined ring
Unfortunately it has some shelf wear, so parts of the numbers are obscured

On the bottom of the blue portion (just below "Made in Japan") it has:
F747A (illegible) 525597 (illegible)

And there seems to be little to no overlap between the MTX-IV and the newer MTX75 Mazda transmission. Also, each synchronizer has two or three blocking rings on the MTX 75, vs a single one for MTX-IV. (Synchronizers engage the next gear and spin it up to match the speed of the mating gear smoothing the shift). Sources:

The contour trans apparently has a inner bushing that the 1st and 2nd gear blocking rings ride on, from looking at the diagrams you referenced. So, there really is only one blocking ring per gear, just like every other syncromesh transmission I have ever seen.

Update.....I got the response back from Mazda Japan and it was not what i wanted to report but here it is...

Hello Jared,

Thank you for your patience! I do apologize for the inconvenience, but I was able to confirm we do not currently manufacture parts for these. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be provided with a resource for locating compatible/ like parts either. If I can be of any assistance, please dont hesitate to reach out to me directly. Thank you very much, and best of luck in your search!

Im still pursuing some avenues on this but yeah, thats a hard one to swallow!:mecry:

Can they provide you a list of suppliers? Victor Reinz is well known for gaskets, could there be a similar supplier for gears and clutches?

Or are they able to share technical data like CAD info on the manufacture of such parts. I assume they only do it for large money but maybe..

Agree. So it looks like getting good parts to get scanned and manufacture them yourself or adapt more readily available parts to this application. Good luck my friend. Anything can be done with enough time, skill and/or money. I don't have enough of any of those to try this.
