Can he work up pricing? Maybe a group buy would work if the price is affordable for the potential customers.

I made the call and I have Linda working up pricing on rebuilds (you ship tranny and they build) and new builds ( they supply built tranny) I should know something if not today by tomorrow. I did specify HD gear sets on both.

Is it possible that your brother has the SHO MTX mixed up with the Ford MTX75 transmission? The later was used in far greater quantities and has far greater parts availability. The MTX used in the SHO, the MTX-IV, had only about 50,000 total transmissions produced.

I did give him the call number of MTX-IV and were specific to the 89-95 SHO with the 3.0 motor, he said yes...they are working on pricing now and will get back to me.

Ok guys, I talked to my brother for a good while last night and in great detail about the MTX-IV builds...They are still working up pricing BUT, the shop owner has some reservations as to IF they want to build these transmissions....here is the reason why;

The owner of this shop is smart, before she gets into anything she wants back story so she called around to the big shops she frequently talks to and gets parts from and partners with occasionally and wanted to know why there are very few that will build this transmission because the parts are still very much available... The very consistent story she got from ALL of her contacts was that building the MTX-IV was ruining their businesses! Let me explain that.....Here is what happens, average joe SHO owner comes in with a blown tranny and gets it rebuilt or buys new one and drives away with a warranty. He takes his car out on the weekends and beats that tranny to **** on the track or drag racing on the street somewhere because lets be honest thats what we do with our SHO's! Average Joe SHO owner blows up that tranny again and then comes back to the shop and says its under warranty...Let me make this clear...NO SHOP WILL COVER ABUSE UNDER WARRANTY...so the shop wont cover it because when they pull it apart it shows signs of abuse ( and they can tell believe me i have seen some and even I can tell and I'm not a transmission guy)...Average Joe SHO owner gets upset with that answer so he gets on internet and blasts the transmission shop for not honoring the warranty and the shop starts taking hits because the average Joe SHO owner cant be realistic and just come to grips with the fact that HE is the reason the tranny blew up and that he abused it to that point...so thats the HONEST reason why we cant find builders for these things and thats the reason people stop building them.

IF my brothers shop does decide to build and supply the MTX-IV trannies, there WILL be a waiver that is signed before sale stating that there is NO WARRANTY for a transmission that has been abused...on a side note, my brothers shop is a VERY HONEST shop and they will be honest with warranty, if the tranny has not been abused they will stand behind any issues that may occur with it if any....i have never had a tranny fail that my brother has built and he has built 3 for me in different SHO's. He build's for all the SHO's around Lawton area and has never had one come back...

Food for thought.....we are killing our own resources! I realize this might be too much for some to handle (you know the honesty thing) but that is the reality of it.

Nope, just nope.

No transmission parts available.

Been down this road with multiple shops over my nearly 20 years in the SHObiz.

Not sure what wires your brothers shop is crossing, but they are on the wrong wavelength (my guess is they are thinking about the ATX rebuilds they have performed).

Dont' take it too seriously, OG! It's been a hard road for people looking for MTX parts, so if this search indeed pans out, it will be solid gold! Please continue the exploration, and keep us updated as to what happens.

Oh trust me, I would absolutely LOVE to be wrong about this. I've spent more than I care to say on HD gearsets. But after deadend after deadend, I don't get my hope up easily.

Have your brother quote me an order for some new synchros.

I understand that, i really do... and I am not giving up but I am not one to sit and argue either. I chose to share to help the group because I love these cars and am always looking for ways to help and keep them on the road... If someone doesn't want help then I pass them by...no worries. Working on your syncros...They are sending me supplier info soon...

Given that several of the bearings have been unobtainium for over a decade, it is not likely that they are suddenly now available, but it is conceivable and therefore of interest to pursue. Not holding my breath though...
