I got it. It’s the cable. I have 4 cables that are same connectors that I could use and I’ve got one in the garage, 2 on the table and this last one works and it finally sees my device. IMG 2457

Glad you took your time and worked it out. Like I said before, 90% of the time it's something we did or didn't do. But you've done so much with it, I'm sure it was hard to keep track of. Waiting on a solid run for you to post now.

My car idled for maybe 30+/- and I drove about 24 miles. 5 gallons of 93, gone. 5 mpg? I’ll take that as validation the ported intake manifold and CNC ported heads and large turbines are flowing a lot more air, more air needs more fuel and it’s getting all the fuel it wants. Built motor not only to hold more power but pumps more air. 5mpg is like a badge of high performance validation. What will I get on E85? 2-3 mpg??

ok showing my age and obsession of sleepers. 1975 Buick Regal - Landau Roof - for those not old enough:

1729541420015

Buick's 350 cu in (5.7 L) V8 with a 350 turbo hydromatic transmission. Swapped it out for the 1974 455 with the Turbo 400 automatic from a Grand Prix with a positraction rear diff. Rebuilt it with a towing cam for lowend torque, well got 10 MPG. Sounds like you got me beat.... :)

PS:
It was a donation at that time from my grandfather who only passed 2 years ago. He couldn't stop the car from overheating.... I fixed that problem, teeeheee

Well….oil made its way by the turbo seals. I went to get an alignment and they thought I should go to a different location…interstate and farther away….my gut said decline and take more time with the car but also I didn’t want to be afraid of breaking down and really wanted to believe it must be good now. So bc of my doubts I popped the hood and there was no oil splatter and I thought well shit….i have to try. On the interstate I was going 70…and I didn’t smell any burnt oil and was actually quite enjoying the strange looks I was getting….i was loving it. Then about 10 min into my trip I smell burnt oil..and I say …no don’t. Then I see smoke…light smoke…coming from my fenders and at 70 I might be smoking a lot to see it. I pull over and as I slow down and stop it’s coming out thick. I turn it off. And excessive crankcase pressure again but I can vouch for it seemingly being less of a mess to clean. Maybe it’s better but not good either way. The new thing was the turbos. I think this is scavenger pump related, all of it. Not 100% sure but will be looking for their tech support to help. It’s probably too powerful, it’s all very close proximity…turbos to drain and scavenger pump and return. The turbos came with -4 fittings with oil restrictors but perhaps the restrictors aren’t small enough. I called Matt and he said get it home and use the googles to see where it’s leaking from but he said my turbos aren’t flowing the oil enough or the pump is sucking it so its blowing by the seals. So I decided to have it towed. Don’t need to buy new turbos. Matt said the engine is fine but we need to figure this out so off I go to check now. Just got home. Glad I didn’t put the bumper back on….IMG 2465IMG 2466
I did start it again and moved over to the side of the road more and it started right up…no smoke out of the turbos. I think everything is ok. I even started it up and drove it inside my garage and no smoke. Pretty sure turbos and everything good to go. I’ve been building this baby for about 4 years. I can wait another winter and come out in the spring on top! I’m not pushing the car anymore and I’m not spending all my nights and weekends on it anymore. Time to take a step back and do this right while everything is good.

Yeah your setup is complicated to a point - those catch cans collecting oil?

Has to be the scavenger pump...

Sucks man but don’t let it stress you. Lots of new systems, and uncharted waters you’re in with this build. The worst is behind you. It exists now, just need to get everything new sorted and happy working together. Catch your breath. That mad max looking Mo Fo lives to fight another day.

Canary in the coal mine... Doing what they should and telling the truth....
I think I’ve out grown OEM PCV capabilities and I also need a CC that VTA. I did watch that video before. I rewatched it and it made a lot more sense now that I have an existing setup. I think I watched it months before I routed mine. I can see in the video at least 4 things I don’t have. And the plugged vent on the scavenger sump tank is trapping gas expansion. My scavenger pump is above the tank. I can remount it level with my tank. I don’t have a check valve on the oil feeds or on the oil return as the return line is up hill some, I need a check valve after the pump so oil doesn’t drain back into the scavenger tank. Check valve on the oil feed prevents oil feed drips into the turbos. When I turn the car off I let the scavenger pump work a little longer but oil drains back into the pump and more into the feed and fills up the turbos bc of no check valves. And a PCV system not adequate is also making the issue worse. On ball bearing turbos they don’t use a lot of oil, so likewise thinking I’ll oil cool them is a mistake. I need to use their water ports. Precision turbo mentions this as a must! If your turbos have water ports you have to use them. If they were journal bearing turbos then I could oil cool them.

When I pulled over I shut the car off but had left the scavenger pump on…it must have sucked out the extra oil build up and why it didn’t smoke when I restarted it. I’m going to return that PCV valve and buy the brown one from Ford. Regardless when I switch to a stronger PCV system it will be in addition to a functioning OEM system rather than a replacement. With a vacuum pump and large cc tank with breathes it won’t hurt anything if it were to be overkill bc it’s VTA.
