Can you run without a hood for a while?

This car build stuff can be overwhelming at times. I think it has a lot to do with how limited my free time is to spend working on it. It’s easy for ppl to tell me I can set my own schedule since I’m my own boss. I’m always looking to increase my work output and make more money than the year before. I have the it engraved in my mind that more is better. I guess I believe that one day I won’t have to work so hard and I don’t want to be timid of putting in that work now, while I can and I’m healthy. Working 7 days a week isn’t my end game, it’s my journey to NOT working 7 days a week. I’ve been finding ways to take on even more work actually. Lol!
That said this car project has been rubbing me the wrong way lately. I feel like this ecu should be ripped out of the car! I want to de power the steering rack but look at all the wires going to it!
Of which one is massive, connecting to too many other things to count at first glance. Why???????????????? It’s an electric motor why does it have so many wires running to it?????? It just makes me think I should not make it a manual rack otherwise the computer will take a dump I can almost guarantee and disable way more than just the motor…..
I want to do a hood exit exhaust but it’ll probably suck in fresh air throwing off the o2 sensors if it’s less than 1 foot long…..it just aggravates me. There’s so many limitations it feels like. You can do these mods to a $500 dollar car….but no….not the beloved Taurus….let’s make it race car proof!?!? These are my latest frustrations and rants.
Without much time to complain let alone work on the car it’s now time to just brainstorm this motheR$ u. Cker. That’s mostly what I’ve been doing, lots of thinking and the engineers at Ford throwing speed bumps in my progress. I even contacted this company
well low and behold, they don’t do anything with the Taurus, being in the UK the only thing they import is the Raptor, not a wimpy ugly Taurus….I should have known….stupid Taurus owner thinking the World gives a damn about us.
I am looking for way more than the Taurus SHO could ever give me. So again let’s just do our own thing, I hate limitations being bestowed upon me.
More thinking…….ok well now I might as well take up Tig welding….
Got a friend coming over today to see what he needs to set me up with a 50 amp 240 volt outlet. Besides purge plugs for 2.25 and 3” pipe, of which I now have a stainless universal exhaust kit for both, I’ll need a bottle of Argon and some 309 wire, welding table, table grinders and let’s go! Got my helmet, gloves, tungsten now I just need to start tac welding some piping to hand over to a pro, but as I see it, my only saving grace will be to practice tig welding to tackle my own projects moving forward, as Ford has made sure my only ticket to survival is to be able to mod my own $ hit. Level up on the skill assets!
Not knowing what to do makes me angry but that starts to manifest my desire to overcome this “challenge”. My latest breakthrough was learning we already have engine lift brackets……yeah! You know that ugly bracket on the back of the head? That’s an engine lift eye. I stumbled across this probably wide known tid bit of a gem but unbeknownst to me my own personal discovery as I was not happy with my engine hoist setup, particularly with how I was attached to the engine, so I bought a engine leveler, only to surrender my own path to look at the service manual to see where Ford says to support it from…..oh!! That ugly bracket I removed years ago, but wait, where the front one??? Went to my local Ford dealership and they didn’t have a clue as to what I was looking for even after showing them a pair I found for sale on eBay. So after an awkward 15 min of waiting for nothing I left and ordered the eBay ones. Works like a charm, not sure if it’s a lucky one. Then I modified the leveler L brackets and bought hooks from Lowes. Wallah
And now after more hard thinking I believe I have found the new home for this rear turbo. It’s going to get welded and connected here and I’ll go from there

and the exhaust can either shoot down next to the driveshaft or cross over and back down where the OEM location is

Sadly, the steering system is tied into EVERYTHING. That specific section you pictured is the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) and the Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) gear/motor. The computer looks at this through HS-CAN and various sensors. TL;DR at bottom.
Some examples are as follows: Steering Assist is proportional to input effort (speed and force) and speed. Active Park Assist uses data from and to this system. Torque Vectoring and Curve Control looks for data of steering angle in order to send brake and throttle cut signals. AdvanceTrac sends and receives signals to control the vehicle in the event of a spin/loss of control. Lane Keeping System will use it to correct lane position. ABS sends signals in the event of a ABS event. IPM-A sends calculated Steering Angle to it. BCM sends Charging System Status to it. PCM send RPM. It outputs EPAS failure to the PAM and IPC. It looks for torque at the steering wheel and sends the IPC-A a Hands Off alert if it doesn't sense resistance from a driver having hand contact. It receives Lane Departure Warning Status and Lane Keeping Requests from the IPM-A. Road Curvature is sent to it from the IPM-A. Selector lever status from the PCM. Stability control events from ABS. Steering angle calibration, count, and initialization from the SCCM. Steering Angle Request from the PAM. Steering Wheel Angle from the SCCM. Lateral Accel from the RCM. Vehicle Speed Fault from the PCM. Wheel Speed from the ABS. Wheel Torque from the PCM. Yaw Rate from the ABS.

R - Unfortunately, removing this device will create a huge logic hole in nearly every module/control system on the HS-CAN network. Due to "handshake" signals that will not be received and data that won't come or go, many other systems will be disabled or put into "limp" mode.

You ain’t kidding! Too many unnecessary connections. If you pull the rdu it should drive normal but just without an rdu and driveshaft. Making the steering rack manual should just mean it’s hard to steer….period. All this stuff interconnected and communicating with each other is unnecessarily complicated. But if this was a Camaro there would be an aftermarket answer for each issue waiting for purchase, not this platform. It literally is invisible

It is frustrating at times. Just not enough of us SHO owners compared to other models, and I really think it's just harder to mod. My S550 and other rides have way more options for power. Well, except the Grand Cherokee lol.

Comfort and technology comes at a price. If all you wanted was 0-Mach Jesus on a drag strip, you could always go with a MegaSquirt EMS Pro, resort back to no ABS, traction control, etc. Technically it is still a SHO with EcoBoost. The benefit to networking is only a few wires to add any system. The downside is engineer "A" talks to engineer "B" and finds out "B's" parts have some info that "A" could use information to tweak and improve his system. Now "A" can't function without "B".
