So I didn’t go expecting to win I just wanted to show my car indoors. But I lost Battle of the Builds to this car. It was next to my car and I never even looked at it. No engine mods they didn’t even open the hood. IMG 5251

I'm shocked TBH.

My 1st thought is, that no one had any idea WTF they were looking at. Yet alone, understand how much actual customization had to (or has to) go into getting it to your level.

Not only due to limited production from the jump, but also due to those same low production numbers, there is very limited aftermarket support for the platform.

As you (& the rest of us know) there is a vast difference between available bolt-ons versus actual customization/building.

My next thought is, given what vehicle did win, and their lackluster display, including the engine hood being closed the entire time.... that tells me the voting was likely done by spectators and/or fellow participants.

Which you know is completely subjective. To that I say..... LAME.

In a true judged competition, where teams of judges are tasked with various aspects of a build and assess numerical scores in several categories accordingly..... You would've easily walked away with top honors.

I and the SHO community collectively sigh for you.

But as long as you had fun, in the end, that's all that matters. The sting of a loss will dissipate quickly and before you know it, you'll be back earning them trophies respectively.

I agree, I don’t know if they scanned my ride to read the mods….which should have been done. The list doesnt add phrases like “one off” or “prototype”. I think 50% of my car isn’t available for purchase to fit. So reading the list of parts one may assume that’s our aftermarket support. I did glance at the Golf’s list and it was about the same size list of what is done to just my engine.

The judging is whack IMO. A judge on Saturday told me the judge on Sunday can erase his score. I said what? He said judges share the same exact score card, all have access to the same app and only one score card per vehicle. I can’t help but analyze that. So assuming Saturday is an entirely different set of prejudges and Sunday is the final judging by a different group of people. So let’s say I get a score of 81 on Saturday. Sunday judge can give me a score of 79. Erasing my score from Saturday to make their own. This is my opinion of course, but a simple piece of paper for each judge to make their score….on Sunday they add up the scores and divide by the number of scores to get the average. This is Elementary pre Algebra Math. The way it’s setup why even bother to judge on Saturday…it’s up to the Sunday judges for final score. Makes me think of a professional fight where you get your ass kicked for 9 rounds …stay on your feet for the 10th but rally a good round. Judged by the last round as final you win. Lmfao!

Contrary if it were up to the ppl I would have easily won. I think that’s part of the disappointment. Surrounded by ppl saying you won easy…and if you don’t it’s definitely rigged…to lose clearly makes you think it’s rigged. And I can’t help but agree. It was slightly comforting that everyone seemed shocked as well. The winner hardly got a few claps. It was also discerning to hear a few staff members win in their respective class. Isn’t that a conflict of interest? You lose to a staff member who was judged by a fellow staff member? And the announcers Mom won a raffle….they just double dipped for themselves it seemed. It was my 1st ever experience and these things didn’t feel right. Not to mention it was their 15th year I guess and it was so unorganized I would believe it was their first year if someone told me. Awards at 2pm. I got mine around 5pm. They did a new raffle that wasn’t even advertised…so bc nobody entered at 2pm they rallied to get some last raffles involved. That took about 2 hours bc they raffled off like 40 items. Stefanie is HR so standing next to me she was dying bc of the lack of organization LOL.

I didn’t even know Best Engine was a thing and that was the final award. Guess it’s good to leave with something. Before that I do get runner up to Battle of the Builds it was an engraved glass cup. I felt very much robbed holding a glass cup…like wtf is this. And I asked Stefanie and some others I had met who we were hanging out with, who did I lose to? I am not a delusional person. I know when I’m beat. I’m humble I can take a loss and admit someone did it better. But that car???? Likewise I know when I’ve been robbed. It stung although I was mentally reserved to just attend. And see all the attention the car got. It looked great under the lighting. I got caught up in everyone saying I had won with no question, so to lose was shocking.

Back to racing. Racing holds no room for opinion. Results are FACTS.

A VW GTI? Granted, they're buildable. My son's GTI, 700 HP 4 cylinder walks away from most cars. Huge ass turbo and 7k built motor.
Regardless, we're proud to have had you representing our platform.
No performance mods. This was interior upholstery and tucked wheels in the frame.

Well…after all I did win. Time to accept it, enjoy it and let the racing begin! Posted this on my IG with the song HUMBLE. Tagged MaxPower Automotive for the engine build, BennyJamesCS for all the custom metal fab and BCPRestoration for matching the right side valve cover powder coat. Now let the racing begin: front bumper time, and another couple hundred miles and let’s dial in 93!

A lot of ppl have been asking in other social media platforms what I’m going to do with the front bumper. Shit, I don’t know, maybe just put it on? Designed to fit during the project. Add back wastage dumps and clamp from under the car and it’s done. That emblem I had made looks fantastic IMG 5355IMG 5356IMG 5370IMG 5371

I like it better with the bumper, but without even Stevie Wonder can see the custom work and detail in that car. Maybe display the bumper cover in front of it. Bottom line, it's your ride, lot's of work and planning went into it, plenty to be proud of there
Thank you
