I bought some new 80w/100w bulbs to put into my new headlights.
I made a custom harness wired on 30 amps relays and 10ga wire connected to the battery. So power so no problem here.
I am trying to see if heat would be an issue, like melting the lenses or something. I did not installed them yet, but I don't wanna melt the new headlights.
Has anyone ever used these bulbs ?

You did the right thing with the relay harness, as the Taurus headlight wiring and bright/dim stalk switch is barely up to the OEM headlamp wattage.

I ran the 80/100W bulbs for years with no problems, but I'll caution you, the control of the filament locations in some of these high wattage bulbs is crap. Your headlamps will most certainly be brighter, but you may also notice that they're trying to illuminate satellites in low Earth orbit.

The bulbs I bought are supposed to be great quality. But it could be still cheap.
That's why I'll be aiming the lenses with stock power bulbs, and then I'll compare.

since you went threw the hassel of making the wiring harness id recommend HIDs
as for experience i dont have any with these but i would say dont leave the headlights on and the car idling for long since it will draw a lot of power and probley flatten your battery

HIDs without, at the very least, brand new housings = fail. I have HIDs in my wife's 95, but a) yes they are in brand new housings and the glare actually really isn't bad at all, and b) they are aimed down quite a bit from probably where they should be.

So yeah, long-distance vision suffers a bit but I haven't had anybody flash me. I would NOT recommend it in old housings - the scum that forms on the lenses means the light will go everywhere but the road.

I also don't see, why would you go with extreamly expensive and powerful halogen bulbs, when 35watt HID/xenon would work better and be even cheaper to replace when bulbs burn out.

I install HID kit at work every week.
I just don't like the light pattern they have in these kinds of lenses.
I don't think that 160watts of power (about 14 amps) will drain my 1000cca battery while the 160 amps alternator is backing it up.

I was just asking about possible heat issues. Putting an HID kit is not in the question.

You should be ok heat wise. They probably don't actually consume the 80/100 watts anyway.

I had powerful Halogen bulbs in some of my other cars before and few wore headlights out very fast. As for light pattern of SHO, they wouldn't be any worse than honda civic. They wouldn't really blind people. I think these halogen bulbs will make your lense get yellow faster, and they will become dimmer in less than a year.
