There is no "tune up" on fuel injected, distributorless ignition system engines. The 3.2L (and 3.0L) SHO are scheduled to have the spark plugs replaced with Motorcraft AGSP32PP plugs and the valve gaps adjusted at 60,000 mile intervals. The plug wires and valve cover and plug well seals may optionally be replaced during this service if desired or if spark or oil leaks are detected. The oxygen sensors should be replaced at 60,000 mile intervals on both engines to maintain the optimum rich/lean swithing for the best power and fuel efficiency (new info).
The timing belt and serpentine belt are scheduled to be replaced on a 100,000 mile interval on the 3.2L (60,000 miles on the 3.0L). The water pump, crankshaft position sensor, front main seal and lower radiator hose may also be replaced during this service.
You may notice that the engine runs smoother due to the valve gapping, but the main benefit is that you are preventing camshaft lobe damage. The engine will have a little more punch and sound tighter after the timing belt is replaced, but this is just returning the engine to its original power output. These are not services to increase power or performance, but to prevent engine damage or failure if the services are not done. These are known as preventative maintenance services and are very important to the long and powerful life of the SHO engine.
