On my way into work tonight @approx. 75mph a new Nissan Maxima comes up beside me looking to get his a** handed to him. Now, i def. know better because i've never performed 60K and my car has felt a little sluggish latelely but i said what the heck. I kicked it out of o/d and romped on it. Pulling ahead, he gets behind me then all of a sudden a **** of smoke exits my rear end! Pretty big cloud too! headbang CEL comes on so i back off to asess any damage. CEL keeps blinking then eventually stays off. Temp is fine, rpms fine, no smells or noises... I'm thinking its time put it away for the winter and begin maintenance immediately. The funny thing is afterward i caught up and kicked his butt. My SHO seems to have more pep and acceleration now though. shrug

I'm going with the bird idea. lol I hit a bird going 120mph in the SHO, he made contact right about my driver side headlight and the hood. Didn't doo no damage but when I looked in my mirror he was about 40ft up in the air and the hit the ground real hard, I'm guessing with a *plop*? Still is bird all pasted to the bottom of my hood! :D But seriously probably a cat related issue, I can't think of why the engine itself would actually make a huge **** of smoke and then be fine.

My friend's dad hit a duck in his Pantera. The thing went straight up and came down hard. He got lucky that all it did was take off a windsheild wiper. He drives that car like 50 miles a year.

You guys guessed it... Damn bird took out my O2 sensors on its way through! 176, 172, 173. I know i've never changed them actually. Guess its time! Anyone know if its a PITA on an ATX? Thanks.

You may need to replace your sensors because of their age, but don't necessarily expect the codes you mentioned to stop appearing after the change. Since both sensors showed lack of switching, there is chance that the engine control system is not maintaning the mixture properly. That could be due to a vacuum leak or a dirty or fouled sensor - MAF, TPS.

Even after you solve the problem, a new, 265 hp Maxima should be able to provide your ATX a view of his rear bumper.

I was in error... the Maxima was the previous style... i forgot about the brand new body style... sorry. headbang

I have new TPS and i've cleaned my nostrils so far. I've noticed a difference in throttle response! I'm thinking vaccum leat also but 02's are very old and will be replaced tomorow.

Thanks Sdpatt
