more rubber, more HP.....
Get it fixed under warrantee then get rid of it and get an MTX. That's what I did. My first SHO was an ATX. What a big mistake. 2 months into it the tranny began slipping and choking; sometimes wouldn't shift out of 1st until 6500 rpm. I tried every different ATF known to man. No luck. Was fortunate enough to come across a low miles Ford Factory Rebuild trans for real cheap. I put that puppy in and while it was still running, I got rid of that car as quickly as I could.

who did the rebuild?

They will likely honour the warranty, so I wouldn't worry too much.

My transmission shop doesn't seem to know their a**holes from elbows when it comes to that AXOD-E in the SHO, as evidenced by my FOUR rebuilds. My 3rd rebuild didn't last 500miles...

Hmm, 159k on mine. I just flushed it the other day, and now it's like new again. Since I changed the fluid, it doesn't do that 6500rpm shift (read:bang) anymore.

 - If you do that to your car you deserve to have it in the shop every 2000kms .

not to sould like a *** but don't drive it like a stick the computer will get confused and it takes a really long time to shift, thats is NOT what caused your failure by any means, I drive my car extremely hard with no exeptions I don't ever let off at 5500rpm because I have a tweecer and the WOT shift is amazing so I usually let off after the shift :D my tranny lasted about 30K and failed because the oilpump stripped out (not soposto happen) these trannies can be tough when rebuild right so don't loose hope yet. when you take it in ask specificly what went wrong and ask them to write it down so you can relay that infor to us. :)

yea the whole manual trany driving is over...and im not gonna be ******* it anymore....its too many risks ya know ....i will definitly let you guys know what the deal is with it.....i learned my lesson about driving it like a MTX...

the shop honoured the warrenty and are fixing it free of charge..."we keep our customers happy " and if they fix it for free..i am happy ...im curious cause it would be another brand new tranny if the 1 year warrenty would start over..??

btw it was fixed by a shop in windsor called discount transmissions....they do awesome work for really good prices..(complete rebuild...new parts new torque convertor for 1700 canadian with 1 year warrenty). ..whcih is awesome for a college student if you guys know what im saying....i dont have anythign agaisnt them...if they fix it no problems......i will still highly recommend them to anyone.

but yes i learned my lesson guys..im done driving it stupid......but im going back today to see what they find...

ill keep you guys informed ...

the failure is NOT your fault, if their tranny failed in 2K then I would not reccomend them to other people but thats just me, I paid 1400US for my tranny from aamco (who did horrible work BTW buffalo NY) so their price is about average I would say, there is not much a person can do to **** a tranny in 2K maby... actually short of neutral drops there is nothign one can do to **** a good tranny in 2K

How you drive an ATX car has nothing to do with how well the tranny holds up. In fact, I believe that the harder you drive these cars regularly is better on both the engine and trans.

It's not uncommon for rebuilt trannys to develop problems within the first few hundred miles. They are very complex units with hundreds of parts, and most shops do not have tranny dynos on which they can test a rebuilt unit out of the car -- most get tested by being installed back in the car.

You have a warranty, so as long as it's a reputable shop I wouldn't sweat it.

above average ?? maybe.........but rememeber i live in ontario ...soo that 1700 was canadian ..i dont know the exchange rate but i know its mayeb the same if not less then 1400 US ....the guy told me its not surprising new trannies develop problems...it happens...but they will fix what is bad...they said maybe a drum of somesort ? ?i dunno

If you are going to baby it you might as well get a small pickup.....

FWIW I had a rebuit FPS tranny go in only to have ther Ford TC fail in 3 months. But after a complete disassembly and a beefed up TC all is well and I couldn't be happier with the tranny on my '97.

And as far as manually shifting and ATX being bad for the tranny that's pure crock if the tranny is made to take it.

yea ...i love my SHO to death ...and i dont wanna get rid of it ...i acutally can buy a mint condition grand marguis right now for 1000 bucks...perfect inside and out but with gas and everything..i think it would be better i stick with the sho...

as for manually shifting teh ATX ..i dont think you know what i mean ... i leave it in drive....take off rev it up to 5 grand...then just before it shifts...i took my foot of the gas and it sounded as a standard car would when you push the clutch in ....then it shifted as the RPM's fell ....and i pushed the gas again ..probley not good

So how many motor mounts have you broken doing this? I don't drive mine like yours, and have gone through 4 in 2 years. I have Mike's solids coming next week. Hopefully that will fix me having to get motor mounts every 6 months.

I use a chain on my '97. Still on the original mounts.

They Found The Problem!!

well guys, the ripped the tranny out ....checked it all over....i had a defective torque convertor....not my fault at all .....factory error.....soo a new one is being purolated over night to the shop ...hopefully be back together tommorow afternoon or wedndesday.....

they did great work ..they actually ripped it all apart again ..make sure there is no damage from the torque being bad or metal shavings in it...soo cause of a bad torque convertor....they rebuild the tranny for me all over again :) ....i wonder if i will notice any difference how it drives this time compared to how it drove before with the bad torque in it ...??

newayz thought i would let all you know for those who were curious what left my car stranded......nothing big...easy fix or so they say....

hopefully that will be the end of the tranny problems....

also my dad told them about the few drops of tranny fluid on the driveway ...and without thinking twice ..they are replacing all the gaskets and and seal which could let fluid out of the tranny

sooo thank god it was nothing big..ill have my car back by the weekend :) ...
