Like i said, the 3.2 in my 93 is making a strange clicking noise that I believe JUST recently started, two days ago or so. It sounds like its coming from all over my engine....mostly on the top I think. I will go out and try to get a better listen.

I took a little video of it earlier that I have a link to. Its good quality but very very dark for some reason unfortunately. I will let you know that I start by the intake/TB and go back and forth over the motor. I can hear the clicking fairly well over the pass. side of the motor and coming from the air filter (which if you cant tell from the vid. is when you can hear a LOT of air being sucked in as well as the clicking sound). It also is somewhat loud over by the pullies.

Ive done some researching about the noise and have read that the most common noises like this are either rod bearings, valves, or just normal (slightly louder) engine noise.

Anyway, sorry again for the dark vid but you can sort of make out where im going with the camera and you can see me go over the front valve cover a few times. If it totally sucks I can go out and try again.

Let me know what you think.

Strange Noise?

Yeah my apologies for the horrid video....I will try to get a better one tomorrow night or something.

Now that you mention it, it does sound a little like an exhaust problem...I knew it had a little bit of a leak when I bought it, so maybe I just need to fix it. However, it also has a clicking sound like it could be related to an accessory (i.e. water pump), I will try to get a better listen tomorrow as well.

I was just afraid last night when I turned the car on and heard a clicking...Ive never had the pleasure of hearing rod bearing knock so everytime I hear a little clicking I freak out. I knew the previous owner (Shawn (mosho93)) took really good care of this car and checked the rod bearings before he sold it to me so I couldnt believe it could be them but I got paranoid.

Thanks for the input thus far, Ill keep updates coming :thumb:

3.2? Timing belt tensioners make that slight ticking noise. It comes from the passanger side under the timing belt cover and normally is only for a certain rpm period and idle. The vid was taking a while to load so I am just going off what you stated in your initial post.

3.2 timing belt tensioners are like $190 through Ford unless you can get the discount.

Exhaust leak.

Tighten your Y-pipe to manifold nuts and go from there. :thumb:

Chris, I know the y-pipe was leaking a bit when you took it off my hands. But I always thought when i had it that the timing tensioner did make a slight ticking noise... I took the rod bearings off when i did the clutch/and all the seals including oil pan/rear main/carrier gasket...and they looked really good...

Yeah I didnt figure it would have anything to do with bearings but when i start thinking positive thoughts about cars they break on me lol. I think while shes in for the winter I will check over the exhaust and tensioner. Im sure everything will be A OK. :thumb:
