Hello all,
A couple of weeks ago I picked up a 3.2 that I found through an eBay listing.
I've wanted one of the 1st or 2nd gen SHO engines for about 10 years and my poor old Y2K Ford(Mazda) 2.5l Ranger had been threatening to give out on me. I don't really blame it honestly, I've treated it like it was a big truck for the past 120k miles of the 277k it has on its clock.
Anyway, short term goals with the 3.2 SHO are to get a manual 2WD transmission from a 3.0 ranger, the miscellaneous pieces to make them work together, and jam the lot into my beat up regular cab.
A few things I'll be looking for within the forum are leads on some parts that I need to replace after a mishap during transit, leads on a factory service manual, and hopefully leads on bell housing adapters.
The engine fell over on its face because I had to stab the brakes and I didn't strap the engine down well enough... Oops. Just because my grandpa pulled on the strap and said it wasn't going anywhere didn't make it so!
Lost the top plastic timing belt cover, the ignition module on the cross tube above that cover, and the power steering pulley.
Also, my SHO engine reportedly has around 102k miles, and has been sitting for several years so I'll be looking at the 120k service interval at the very least. If that doesn't already include head gaskets and main seals, I'll be doing those along with the soft gaskets and accessories.
I've got some different long term goals with the engine that may not include a ranger body at all, but instead possibly a crossover, wagon, or smaller SUV and AWD if I can find something stout and reliable. If anyone knows of any cool builds or has neat ideas that are similar, call them out and we'll see if we can't brainstorm a fun buggy around my engine.
Thanks,
Nick
