When the car is warmed up and I go into 2nd gear I get a horible grind b4 sliding into 2nd. The clutch is all the way in. This is mostly noticed when bringing car to higher RPM in 1st then shifting to 2nd. The car has a new clutch (2yrs) and all. Why is this happning? please any help would be great! :)

Trans rebuild. Mine's doing the same thing (95 MTX), and I'm pulling it out & sending it to SHO Nut. I don't know if it's a synchro or a blocking ring problem, but it's going to someone else for the rebuild.

It has nothing to do with the clutch, sorry to say. BUT, if your clutch has 30k - 40k on it, consider replacing it at the same time if you drive agressively.

In mine, if you granny the 1-2 or match revs, it's much smoother. It only grinds when you try to do a quick 1-2 shift.

I've noticed my 89 does something similar, only on the 4-3 downshift.

i used to work at advance.... and a company called southern gear...(pretty good stuff) makes a rebuild kit for the MTX-IV with synchro's.... it was like 300 dollars or something.... i'll see about getting the part number and exact price so i can post it....

Or just rev match it to 2nd gear, in my SHO I can always get it in gear w/o the clutch at about 1000-1500RPM just keep the gas steady and it'll slide right in. Only gears I have been able to "master" is 2-3, are not worth it to me just because I only do this a few times a month or even longer.

truckers use double clutching because they don't have syncros in their tranny's like we do. so what u do is if ur in first gear, u push in the clutch and put it in neutral, let out the clutch, push the clutch back in, rev the engine back up to speed and put it into 2nd gear and then let the clutch back out. u get real used to it though. On another SHO we have around the house, there is a 2nd to third gear grind if you are taking it up to the red line real fast. So you have to double clutch it to get it into third gear when going fast like that. But basically u probably just need 2nd gear synchros but for right now, just double clutch it.
