Just registered today to this inspiring, information filled forum! Just over 3 years ago my uncle calls me in a state of panic about his '92 sho won't shift gears anymore and he might need picked up from i cant even remember where. Long story short he calls his tech, then calls me back and says man if you can fix it you can have it. He couldn't stomach the 2 almost 3k tranny rebuild or replacement rather... something busted a hole in the tranny case and he lost all fluid. I just happened to be in need of a car and just happened to bump into a guy who was a tech at a ford dealer and he just happened to be finishing up a tranny for the very car my uncle was ready to give away and then Pres Bush just happened to send me a $900 check in the mail to help boost the economy. So i bought the tranny and was also given a PS pump. I couldn't believe it...this all happened in one weeks time. So for $900 i had a car and tranny and a willing buddy with a lift to help install the tranny. Hope you don't kick me off for saying this but the Lord works in mysterious ways. Kind of funny how things come back around, I remember riding in the car as 15 year old and thinking wow this thing is kind of fast and had no idea what i was riding in but now she's mine and the rust is so bad (rocker panels, floor pan/frame,rear quarters) i am going to have to make a decision on what to do with her. I was wondering if anyone had ever restored a unibody or is that a silly question? Should i consider finding a ford taurus same year and swapping everything over. Would like to rebuild motor and make her go faster and handle even better! Just can't seem to figure out what to do with the body. The car is silver and could almost be mistaken for white when shined up. Sorry for this long letter but this weighs heavily on my heart.

Welcome! At almost 300k with that much body rot I would find a clean car and start there.

Welcome. Swap the internals to another clean body. Depending on where in Ohio you are, you may not have to go too far south (i.e. Nashville) to find a decent/clean bodied car.

Eventually the thing will rot so bad, it'll be a safety/driveability issue. If you have the time, you can swap everything into a new body w/o much additional $. Just takes the time.
