Yes yes, I know this is a SHO forum - just came across an article claiming that Ford is testing a 2017 Mustang GT500 with a 5.0L V8 and our twin turbo Ecoboost setup. Irresponsible speculation places horsepower somewhere around 740 (!!).

I've always wondered what our twin setup would do to a V8 - looks like we have our answer... Although Chrysler beat them to the 700hp threshold with their Hellcats (which they have given up trying to match the high customer demand of), I think this one will be the one to wait for, assuming Ford keeps it within reach of $60k.

Now if they could fix the suspension so the car could follow a curve in the track...

From what I remember reading in the various magazines, the 2015 made huge progress in this area. Some articles even suggested this is getting close to European sports car levels. I will admit that I'm getting older and the memory isn't what it used to be....

OP, Where did you find this article? If it is from Horsepower Kings, it is a click bait site and nothing that is ever posted there is accurate or true. Just saw the same thing on svtperformance.com

Yeah I bet it was horsepower kings - I've seen the same article repeated elsewhere, but they all share an image or two from HP Kings. I feel so used, so ashamed lol... Sorry for the irresponsible forwarding of unvetted information!

I did read that the current supercharged V8 in the Shelby now pretty much tops out in the high 600hp range, but that's not enough to go against those Hellcats. They need something different - our twin turbo setup in the new GT can do over 600hp (upgraded pistons, cams, etc), so what could it do with a V8 with the same upgrades in place?

The Roush has always run rings, literally, around the GT500, which seems aimed solely at the drag race crowd.

The 5.8 trinity motor will make well into the 700-750 RWHP range on the stock bottom end (stock motor actually) which is way more than needed to deal with a hellokitty. In stock form, the two cars trap within 1-2 MPH of each other, depending on if the hellokitty is automatic or manual.

If the new car is a twin turbo V8 of some sort, it still won't have anything in common with the SHO setup. Much different turbo, cooler, etc etc etc. Along the same lines, the new Ford GT's twin turbo setup has nothing to do with the SHO setup either. Too bad, a 600+ WHP SHO in stock form would be a handful.
