I'm sure this is probably a repost, and I apologize, but I don't know how to put together search terms for this.

Three times in the year I've had this car, it has just shut off while I was driving. Each time it was at low speed (roughly between 25 and 40 mph), each time it was while turning - twice while changing lanes; not abruptly, but a little harder than gently, and one of the three I hit a small bump while changing lanes. The dash lights up like a christmas tree and several errors get displayed, but unfortunately I haven't been able to write them down since I'm in traffic when it happens. Even more unfortunately, it's extremely intermittent, so I can't reproduce it. So far it's been months between instances.

Oh, and in each instance, I shifted into neutral, restarted the engine, and continued on my way trouble-free.

It's really, really strange behavior and I'm completely at a loss to even begin to understand it. Has anybody else run into this? Does anybody have any idea what could cause it?

You should have stored codes in the computer. Retrieve those and that will help point the way to finding the source

My guess is that you have a loose connection somewhere. Challenge will be finding which connector is it.

Check your positive battery terminal for corrosion, I've seen some pretty gnarly ones. I'd agree with a connection issue tho especially if it happens when turning.

Id check the connection on the push to start. It will turn the car off if pressed while going under like 30 I think. That would make sense to me atleast.

I'm not 100%, but pretty sure that's not it. When it turns off, it starts chiming and lights go on all over the dash. Very different from when I've shut it off via the button. I'll check though.

There are no codes on the computer, stored or otherwise. hmm.

Also it happened again yesterday, at the exact same spot (turning left at about 20mph) as the last time a couple months ago.

Could very well be an electrical issue, especially if it happens when you are turning or doing anything else besides going straight. My guess is that when you turn or change lanes, the weight of the car shifts which might result in some exposed/loose wires moving and coming in contact with something else causing a short. Electrical gremlins are a pain in the ass to track down. Might be worth to take it to a shop where they can do more advanced diagnostics.

Is the tilt steering always in the same position when this happens (multiple drivers).

Remove some plastic covers on the lower column and look for anything like a scorched wire or connector.

That is all I got, and it is a long shot.

I'll check this.

Does ur vehicle lose electrical power when this happens? If so id monitor control module voltage for abnormality before it happens again. You don’t want to lose high beams in the dark. Someone told me yesterday that the car can run without a battery after it starts? Could ask be that it’s your alternator shorting.

It doesn't. Everything stays on except the engine.

I know is been a while since i've looked at wiring diagram for these cars but try locating grounding wires and making sure they are not loose or corroded. Ford use to be ass backwards and have a positive grounding system like Dodge.

A member here back in the day had a GEN2 randomly start while driving and it was due to a bad ground on the starter.

Just an update.

No solution. It got much worse for a few months, to the point it was happening 3 or 4 times in a week.

And then, for no reason I'm aware of, it hasn't happened since like February.
