2016 SHO Convention in Nashville: Car Show Decision

I am posting this across the mailing groups, the Forum, and Facebook Groups. It is to get a feel for a timing decision on the Convention Car Show.

Kirk has things rolling along, he will have more details in the next few days. He is on a work marathon, and won’t be back until Sunday sometime, and I am headed up north in Michigan until Sunday, with the laptop staying home and spotty cell, so any questions wouldn’t get answered until late Sunday at least, I’m guessing.

Anyway, as you know the Convention Car Show has traditionally been on Tuesday morning. This year, we have the dragstrip opening on Tuesday morning. Track day is set for Wednesday as usual (Kirk is awaiting the insurance policy).

Anyway, Tuesday morning won’t work. Kirk suggested Thursday morning for the Car Show. I had suggested Monday afternoon, like 3:00 PM or so.

Monday was normally the day that people came into town. For a number of years now, many of us are there on Sunday, and it seems like the rest on Monday morning.

Really, neither Kirk nor I have a dog in this fight! Neither of us will be I the show. Oh, and Golf is Monday morning as usual. And we’ll fit the Gun Range in where there’s an opening.

Thoughts? Car Show for Monday afternoon or Thursday morning?

My 2 cents:

As someone who has been involved in the Car SHOw as a participant, judge and director:

1. Monday – no way
2. Thursday – why bother after everyone has used their cars up on Tuesday and Wednesday? My suggestion would be to forego the Car Show all together and save the money and admin time it takes to make the plaques/certificates. I know we pay an extra entry fee, but I doubt it even covers the cost of the plaques or the time involved with making them. That will leave Thursday for folks to explore Nashville or chill.

i personally would like a car show, of course my show is mainly a show car. mon aft is tough as i know my plans where to arrive mon aft. so i guess thur morn of the 2 alternatives would be my preference, just my 2 cents

Any Dates? I am from Nashville and still have family there! It would be fun to come down for this!

Preliminary Convention info was posted on the SHO Club website, with the Registration form and hotel info coming in the next few days. Since we have Beech Bend dragstrip on Tuesday and the NCM Motorsports Park West Course on Wednesday, both in Bowling Green, the hotel will be in Bowling Green.

Car Show results were split, so it will be on Thursday.
