2015 PP PTU fluid change at AAMCO

Dont know if this will help anyone. From what I have seen you guys are all a lot more accomplished with a wrench in your hand than I am.

Having just bought her with 47k miles I have no way of knowing whether any fluids have been changed. Took it to an AAMCO.

They said my vehicle has a drain plug and a fill plug. That's information I had already read on this forum. They also said it has a cooling unit for the PTU and as a result they need to remove the one Cat and a sensor to access the refill plug.

Hoping because it has a cooler maybe it wont be so bad. They are charging me 258.11 for labor and fluid.

Anyone think I'm getting ripped off?
I had hoped to be able to do this maintenance myself in the future, but removing the Cat sounds like a challenge.
The guy showed me the instructions right on the screen...idk.

That's not bad. Make sure it is quality fluid. To do this with some frequency will add up over time. Look around this forum and the ecoboost forum for detailed instructions. The instructions at Aamco are the Ford provided instructions. However, I don't recall the DIY people removing all that at home.

258 for the work is cheap.

If you have a 2013+ PP this is the easiest way to change the fluid.

What I did, what I used, and how I did it. You can do it yourself, or you can have a shop do this.

I would buy some Redline Lightweight Shockproof fluid off Amazon, 2 and a half feet of 1/4 id rubber fuel hose, some aluminum foil, and this thread to them below.

I would bring aluminum foil to cover the downpipes and 02 sensor. Drain the PTU fluid and have them catch the fluid in a pan. Measure to see how much comes out, and the how bad shape the fluid is in. See if there are any chunkies in the fluid. Metal shavings on the magnet drain plug are normal. It is a direct gear drive system with the PTU. The aluminum foil will protect everything and clean up will be a snap. Clean and re-install the drain plug.

Route the hose down from near the brake booster. Then tell them to remove vent hose from the top of the PTU and slip that 1/4 inch fuel line hose onto the vent ******. The hose will be snug and should not slip off. Use that to fill refill the PTU with fluid. This will take some time. The PTU holds roughly 18 oz of fluid. Remove the hose, put the PTU vent hose back on. It's that simple. Should take less then an hour.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE THE EXHAUST REMOVED IF YOU HAVE A PP CAR.

Thanks again for explaining...again.
I gave it a shot trying to find the posts explaining this from the past and got mixed up with the PP and non PP.

The eccoboost link was really helpful as well.

Fyi: the AAMCO guy, to get the sensor off for the inlet took a socket and cut a wedge in it so it would fit over the wire coming off the sensor. Thought that was pretty clever.
