This happened for the third time the other day. I was driving at 80mph and the tach went to zero and the engine shut off. All other accessories including power brake AND luckily steering seemed to still work. A simple shift to neutral and a push of the start button and all is good again. I trade this car in today, but would like to make them aware of the issue, and educate myself as I am picking up a 15 SHO today as well. Thanks in advance, and I hope none of you have experianced this. Again, this was the 3rd time in 3 years.

Glad you extricated yourself from a possibly tricky situation!

Sounds like a crankshaft position sensor issue to me, not a typical problem in these gen SHOs though. No warning lights at all? We love to blame electrical/power problems on aging batteries :) Never rule out wiring/connector issues either.

Brand New Battery, about 2 months old. I did not see any lights or warnings jump out at me but I was mostly concerning myself with controlling the car and re-starting.

As pointed out by SHOdded, my first suspicion was battery. But that's been addressed, and in a Ford a CKP Sensor that's failing will cause stalling.

Since you're trading the car in to presumably a Ford Dealer for your 2015, hopefully they won't even attempt to renegotiate the value of your trade due to this recent development.

I have made them aware. But they are a dealer. If the car doesn't re-create the issue in their hands - the problem doesn't exist.:munch: What can you do at that point. I just hope the next driver is competent like me.

A friend had a very similar experience with his jag. Turned out to be a faulty start button.

I have an 05 sent Taurus and it has done that 3 times in its life all when it was cold ,10 degree or lower, so I just figured stuck come circuit or something like that. Put it in neutral turned key motores started and on my way I go.
