Hey all just joined this forum because I need help! I just bought this black 2011 Ford Taurus SHO, because it looked so slick and had cooled seats. I did it alL over the phone and internet from a different state dealership, as I had luck doing this with the last vehicle we’d purchased. After a few days, I finally drove it with the windows down and stereo quiet. There is horrible rattling from passenger rear area?!?! Made sure spare And jack were secure, shook body panels, they seemed snug enough. Loud as **** going in town over every minuscule bump, feels smooth and quiet flying down freeway. Thoughts ?? Also my rims are 19” and the spare is only 17” with just as low profile rubber... is that ok/normal?? Thanks

With all wheel drive you must have the same size within a small tolerance on every corner. You risk damaging the all wheel drive system with different size tires/wheels. You can do a quick search on the internet to read up on that.

There are technical diagnostic gear to place under the car to help pinpoint noise while driving (microphones). Do you think this noise is coming from the suspension outside or a noise inside the vehicle? I think the rear shade has been an area of noise making.

Also, are the 19" wheels stock? If not you can check for clearance issues regarding offset maybe for noise. Looking at some older posts, it looks like some non PP SHO's did come with the 17" spare. Maybe low distance driving to a shop is within the acceptable limits of using a dissimilar size?

The SHO, much like other awd vehicles I’ve owned, can tell when there’s a tire mismatch and disables the AWD to protect itself. There’s countless awd cars on the road with little baby spares from the factory

I think stripSHO is correct. They would not put one in as factory part unless it was able to be used. My previous post is generally true but his post makes practical sense to me.

Mini spares are all that way. When properly inflated, they are close enough to the diameter of the regular wheels to not make a difference. No issue there.

Just offhand, I'll throw out one possibility on the noise that a rear swaybar link is bad. Common problem on all old SHOs.

Thanks !! You are right they were both junk! And the caliper was missing two bolts!!! And the ******** didn’t even put the clips back in that holds the brake pad in place!!!! Getting fixed at dealers expense, I don’t care that I signed “as is” paper work!
