I joined the SHO forum today, I usally keep all my problems to my self but enough is enough , I waited 9 months before I could order a red 2010 SHO, we received our order my wife fell in love with it , I bought the extended warranty with it (Thank God I did ) Ford did all the regular maintenance on this car , so here I go ! Under 5000 miles brake pads failed , Ford replaced,
The front timing chain cover leaked two times , All 4 wheel bearings changed By Ford , electronics for the heater controls replaced , by Ford , turbo problems twice ,fixed by Ford , Rear tail lites Crome came off twice , never solved , rear wing fell off , antifreeze leaks , I went thru two warranties that I paid for now ! Our car has 113,00 miles on it now the second warranty ran out Ford will not put another warranty on it , and guess what just happened this week , both turbos just went out , the excuse I ever got ! I must of got a bad car , Ford shame on you ! You build a car that People pay $47,000 dollars for! and you build cars like this !!!
I hope Ford has all there problems solved with these cars ! I was a big Ford guy !!!
I feel this a car good until the warranty runs out and if people can afford something else get rid of your 36000 mile car! Good luck with all the people driving the new Ford ideas , Louie

Well, buying a car with high mileage is always a risk. And the first year of a new model even more so. That's why I never considered anything older than a 2013 when I bought mine. Sorry to hear about your issues.

Sorry to hear Louis, a lot of things to put up with over the years 4 sure. Being a brand new car and the first MY, quite a few things have needed attention/improvement. Then again, you very likely could have gotten a "lemon", possibly with more production-level/line-level issues than actual design issues. Hurts to be the one at that short end of the stick, no doubt.
  1. It is very likely the root cause for the initial turbo failure was not diagnosed. Leading to further issues down the road.
  2. Antifreeze leaks are very uncommon on these cars, where did yours happen?
  3. Were the brakes grinding or what was the issue with them?
  4. APIM and HVAC control modules fail occasionally. More likely blend door actuators tho. A multi-decade problem.
  5. Electronics again, 1st year issues. Same thing happened with the 2011 Edge redesign. Electronics are not only expensive to replace at dealer cost, but those new first year features are prone to having issues.
  6. Easy solution for the peeling chrome on the taillights? replace with SEL taillights OR strip the chrome and wrap or paint.
  7. Wheel bearings do go out more often on modern cars than they used to, for sure. Not just the SHO.
  8. Fluid maintenance is way undersold.
This is not a Ford issue. This issue happens to all makes. How well they bury it is another matter.

Sorry, I read that wrong. I thought you bought it with a bunch of miles. My bad. Still, first year of a new model is always risky. Or any year SVO :)

If it was the 1960s or 1970s I would say that 113k miles is a high mileage vehicle that people should be concerned about. But since it's 2017 and everyone uses modern manufacturing techniques, I don't consider 113k miles high mileage. Sure it's higher mileage and starting to get up there. But I honestly feel that any modern vehicle should last until 150k miles before really starting to have non-mainteance issues. No modern vehicle at 113k miles should have the issues of the OP.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Following this board over the last 7 years, I've learned a lot about these cars and their particular idiosyncracies. My 2010 is a Job2 car. Over the last 88k, I've replaced the brake pads/rotors once, had a loose rear spoiler, replaced sunroof track, replaced right front strut. I let dealer use their Motorcraft synthetic blend oil first 60k, since, I've used Amsoil. I changed PTU fluid at 62k and it was tar like.

If you have a job 1 car, they do seem to have more troubles, in general. (Job1 cars have no trunk pull down strap, PRNDS plastic indicator is high gloss, interior overhead light is different.)Though, there are a few on this board with no issues to date.

The first 2010's we're built in early 2009 as Job1 cars. That first year, Ford made rolling changes to the car. That is why many part orders require a VIN.
The first cars had many of these issues you mentioned that we're often easily addressed by the dealer via TSB's or the owners. Problem is, many dealers could care less and do not proactively perform the TSB for you. I was lucky in that my Ford service manager had a Job1 car.

This same engine, PTU, and transmission is shared in the MKS, MKT, Edge, Explorer, Flex. Though in the Flex/Edge/Explorer, the PTU is cooled.

I know this info doesn't help, but thought I'd share. Before my SHO, I owned imports and can tell you I knew service mangers much better due to the frequent visits. I would buy another SHO without hesitation.

Mark
