replaced my 2010 sho rims for a newer set of Taurus rims. I am having problems with the TPMS. Is there something I need to do to get them to register?

There was a change in the TPMS sensors mid model year in 2010.

All Job 1 2010's, and a portion of the Job 2 2010's, have the banded style TPMS sensors.

Some late 2010 mfg'd models, and all model years beyond, have the valve stem style sensors.

You stated you bought a "newer set" of Taurus rims, and I am betting this is the cause of your experienced issues.

Check with your local Ford dealer to verify which style/format of sensors you should have on your car.

Have you followed the process in the owner's manual? Drive XX distance at YY speed? Do you know if the newer wheels had OEM sensors? Any tire center should be able to identify them for you. If the frequency is the same, that is one major issue out of the way. There is also a trainer tool you can buy on eBay, but I think you are best off, like bpd suggested, going to a shop and letting them check it out.
