Yeah, the day of the land yachts. When I was a kid, a neighbor had a convertible '66 Galaxie 500 XL with a 4-speed and Cherry Bombs. Didn't have the 7.0 Litre, but a 390. I was in awe. With the bucket seats, yours must have been an XL.
Yea, it was an XL. It had a lot of options, but no power steering, can you imagine! I got it past its prime, but it was still a treat to operate. The clutch was a Long type and you needed to do your exercises before you got in the car. So different than the SHO.

Jay's currently restoring a 7.0 liter (428) '66 Galaxie.
The real 7 Litre Galaxies had 427s, not 428s (427 CID = 7.0L, hence the name, despite the fact that the 427 really only displaces 425 CID, but I digress). And Pyrex headlight covers. I **** after 7 Litre Galaxies; one would go great parked next to my '66 Hardtop...I loves me them old FE mills...:dribble:

That was better than I expected--I generally don't find O'Brien amusing. And yeah, Marenetic was a trooper. A really, really hot trooper. :dribble:

No power steering, especially with a 406! Well, it at least you didn't have to work out, just drive your car around. Must have been a pretty cool ride with the 3 deuces too.
Actually, the 7-Litre engine was a 428 FE. Ford used them in '66 and '67 in the Galaxies and Thunderbirds. Look at the video on Jay's Garage. I think Jay would have known if it was a side-oiler.

It would appear that my memory has failed me on this one--I could've sworn that the 7-Litre used a 427, but I stand corrected.

Actually, I had to look it up myself ;) Ford didn't use the 427 side oiler too much. The Shelby GT500 came with the 428 Interceptor, but you could special order the 427... they only made 3 of them. They were called Super Snakes.

I get the feeling that Conan was just using the bit to bring up his old SHO, yet again...He didn't seem to really care two bleeps about the new one._(Still.The guy is almost seven feet tall and he had plenty of head room while he sat in the 2010)

I don't think he cares two bleeps about his '92, either, except as a butt of his jokes.

Found this:

I also heard that there was a TMZ video of him gassing up a Boxster.

The FE's were quite the monsters in the early 60's. In 61 you got the 390, in 62 it was 406, and in 63 it was a 427. These engines had mechanical lifters, and an intake that would strain your back when you lifted it off. The regular FE's oiling system fed the cam first (for the hydraulics). The side oilers didn't have to worry about the cam and fed the mains first. The rear main was the weak point as it got fed last on the regular casting. We used to run a copper tube in the lifter gallery that took the oil to the rear main on the regular casting motor, so that it would live during high revs.
Oh yea, the 62 Galaxy XL 500 had no power brakes as well. The guy who ordered it was only interested in forward motion.

And thus far no one has noticed on all the advertising that the GIII has been absent? Just wondering. In one ad they (Ford) has a GI and GII behind the GIV, but damned if they have the GIII. Oh wait, maybe they could not find a running GIII for the ads??? Not saying .... Just saying.

We are being treated like the red haired bastard step child. What Ford failes to realize is that when a new yuppie types in SHO in Google our lame web site will pop up.

Ford needs to bring closure to the GIII issues before they can move ahead.

Ain't my fault they pooched the GIII Cams. It will raise it's ugly head for those that choose to research the history of SHO's. Sad cuz it's a great new platform.

Even sadder cuz none of the new folk at Ford SHO Development had one clue in **** that we were out there.

After thrashing in GIV fairly severly for three hours I'm impressed that they reallly did listen to us in Schaumburg last fall.

It's a great platform that can only be made better by the wizards that have been around SHO's for a long long time.

Absolutely..On his first Tonight Show; he ended the bit about his "beloved SHO" with the damn thing on the back of a flatbed. How is that a compliment?!

He could have left it in Connecticut. Now NBC probably paid to have all of his junk moved, but if he really didn't like the car, I'm sure he would get rid of it. Did you really expect that the SHO was his only mode of transportation?
If your not a mechanic or do not have a shop, keeping an 18 year old Taurus as you primary mode of transportation is pretty stupid. I poke fun at my car too, doesn't mean I don't like it.

(all of this said outside the realm of our little battle)

Ford Bought Closure to the V8, they won the court case and all of them are out of warranty. Nobody died and plenty live on!

The V8 is not and will never get the praise of the V6, the v6 was a SHO for its time, when they brought out the V8 every car had that HP. There was nothing really special about the v8 unlike the V6.

I still love my white car! Its still my favorite car out of all of them, but the cam problem is over, and instead of beating a dead horse just be helpfull in getting the rest of them repaired and lose the bad taste in your mouth. Most of us have.

PS. Larry, im sure you know this but they had the ECOSHO in Schamburg, There are a "few" certain reasons it was not shown. One was that there were people there that were suing them! And thats FACT and was told to me at the Dearborn Meeting that just a few of us were at on Feburary 4th of this year.

Give me the choice of driving a new G1-2-3 again and I would take another white Gen 3 please..
