Hey there. I'm tracking my SHO PP 2010 in the mid atlantic area on various HOD tracks. Had engine stumble at 120 mph on the Oak Tree straight of VIR last friday. It would kick out of gear and cut the engine to idle, 3000 RPM and didn't throw any codes. Happened on only ONE part of the track, no where else. Weird. Scratching my head on it. Thought maybe tranny was over heating, PTU over heating or something like that. Can't be the speed cap because of the tune set that to 300kph. I did find out later my cold air intake filter was dirty, so, hope that was it: running too rich. Hence, not enough air at MAX sustained engine demand at speed loads. Regardless, a tranny cooler may be in order. So, here's the big Q: What mods should a 2010 SHO PP get to do sustained high speed runs reliably on loop tracks with 30 minute hard driving track sessions? Current mods list : Livernoise 440T tune, muffler delete, 275 40 20 Michelin Sport 4S's with 20mm spacers, God Speed Coil overs, adjustable dampening, with lowered suspension, 2013+ HD brakes (calipers and rotors), Hawk HPS 5.0 brake pads, cold air intake, rear differential drain plug, PTU drain plug, PTU vent / fill mod, FL500s oil filter, noise maker delete, update rear toe links, all new "bones" on front and rear suspension, new stub bearings. Next steps: track pads, tranny cooler and cooled PTU (when and if the PTU ever blows).

Going back in the memory banks, but IIRC the first problem Kirk Doucette had with his 2010, doing his first track day in 2010 at Waterford Hills, was the problem of cutting out. Ford guys were at that SHO Convention in Dearborn. He and one of the Ford guys worked on it that night. They believed that it was the HPFP overheating, as the car ran fine after that.

Ok. That makes sense.
What did they do to cool the HPFP?
Remove the rubber noise dampener / cover that fits over it and take the engine cover off to allow more air flow? Sounds right. At a certain heat level, the gas boils / cavitates in the pump, loses pressure and gets fuel starved.

Yes, that sounds familiar. I believe that's what he did when he subsequently ran VIR in 2011.

But then, he had tranny issues, heat related IIRC. AFAIK, Kirk isn't out here anymore.

Side issue, but the Ford guys were around for his track issues in 2010 and 2011, along with his fading brake pads. Very likely that the beefed-up 2013+ PP package was because of Kirk's track issues in previous years.

Yep, you need to go with a trans cooler. Basically, I would duplicate what Ford did in the 2013+ PP package, as guys running the 2013+ PP cars at SHO track events have had no issues. In fact, they even like those newer PP pads.

I'm surprised that those 5.0 pads are working for you. I would suggest at least HP+. In EBC, pads above the Reds, and my favorites, the Carbotech XP series, preferably XP10/XP8.

I don't remember, they might have swapped it the night of the track day (the Ford engineer's garage he visited had "spare parts"), but IIRC they thought it was the heat issue, as the car ran fine off the track.

Ford was very involved from 2009-2012. Then after the 2013 was done, they disappeared! I believe that they knew the SHO was toast again.

But, I must admit, they did a great job on the 2013+ PP package.

I found this silicon PCV line was cracked off. May have been my engine cut out problemo at VIR!? No? Replaced it with fiber reinforced silicon.

I just want to say, I’m loving what you are doing with the platform. Trust me, a four door family sedan with a five star crash test rating running 10’s in the quarter is freaking awesome, but the same car holding its own on a course with turns? That really shows the capability of the platform, not to mention the balls of the driver.

Bravo to you and I’m excited to see your progress.

Thank you, brother!
Brakes: set. Tires: set. Suspension: set.
I have MSDs and a 70 mm throttle body
waiting once she’s out of my local AAMCO.

I’m proud of her fat ass.
The black carbon fiber thong makes all the difference when i pass people. :)

Once the tranny is upgraded, i’ll get her out for another track day with my HOD peeps and report!
:)

Ok. 70mm TB is in. MSDs installed too.
Throttle and pull is smoother. Throatier too.
No TB whistle / bark either anymore when backing off the throttle at high boost.

Tranny clutches were burned up. Just got the tranny rebuilt and the car is back in my hands. Adding trans and engine oil coolers next. Then a track day 3 test!

With so many negative experiences with LMS on this website alone, why did you decide to go with them?

LMS actually has solid tunes for the 2010 to 2012 SHO's.

I want to throw the Stage 4x track tune on next but maybe just keep that for track day.
Tranny and engine oil cooler installs are next.

Ok. My 2010 PP is totaled due to ice on a down hill off camber turn at 15MPH and a tree. Engine and tranny are fine, car starts and there is no fluid leaks. I have the car and USAA has paid out. Sway bars? Other stuff? I'm xferring all my electronics and other stuff now to the new car. HD brakes, coil overs etc are next.

My question is: What PP parts on the 2010 are worth transferring over to my 2011 SHO? Sway bars ?
