2010 SHO 5W20 or 5W30 oil?

Amsoil is good. However for the price of one Amsoil Oil change, I can get a oil change of Castrol Edge, a filter, and 5 quarts of Mercon LV for a 5 out and 5 in. I change my oil everything 3k no matter what so....

Castrol edge beat out amsoil for turbo gdi engines and ecoboost specifically for lowest ppi for pcv blow by. You can't beat its Walmart price either. Almost everyone on here changes it at 2-4k miles anyway so a good full syn with low blow by would be best for normal daily driving.

I am a user of the HPS Royal Purple 5w30. I love that purple drank and so do my ridez. It's about the same price as all the other synthetic oils. But....its purple!

Also a very good top engine cleaner. I've used it in over 10 vehicles and it magically cleans the valve train and just smooths it out everywhere. I always recommend Royal Purple over Amsoil.

Thats what I was doing last weekend. I recommend you just cut that exhaust hangar off and get it outta the way when you work on the diff lol does that 80w help tighten up the diff? I was leery to change the viscosity on that one with it being electronically controlled

Service manual calls for 80W90...it's what is in it from the factory.

Went ahead and picked up Royal Purple 5w30, and some Royal Purple for the PTU as well. I'm having the PTU flushed at a shop, and they will do the oil change as well for 10$, so I'll **** 2 birds with one stone.

Cam 2 5W30, Always check your oil for color when it is at "Operating Temperature" an for level when it is cold. If you check your oil for color when it is cold it will be dark at 3000 miles.

Hmm, you have a 2013 plus? If so you guys have a wet clutch pack on the diff so thats probably why they went a little heavier

Just checked. 2010-19 all call for 80W90. I'm not aware of any of this car's style rear diff having any drugs (LSD) or additives in the rear diff.

Got the oil change and PTU oil done today, I completely forgot about the RDU however lol. Guess I'll have to make another apt for that. :confused:

I use 5w20, and sometimes 0w20. I have a 2010 Taurus SHO. Car has 98k miles, and the car runs perfect. Never had to replace the turbos, never had to open up the engine (other than water pump replacement at around 86k miles? I think it was 86k.).

5w20 is fine and I want to explain why I think using 5w20 or even 0w20 is better than using 5w30 in our 3.5 Ecoboost engines.

Many people think having a thicker oil is better for turbocharged engines, but that's not true. Having the thinnest oil possible for your engine is the best thing, because having the most oil flow possible is what prevents wear. Higher oil pressure from using thicker oils doesn't mean you will get better protection. Having lower oil pressure with thinner oil is better for protection.

Thinner oils will flow quicker and more volume of oil will flow through every in all RPM ranges, which means better wear protection.

Thinner oils also cool your engine better, because it flows quicker which transfers heat faster.

Use 5w20 or 0w20, change your oil at least every 5k miles, and your engine will last a really long time, especially your turbos.

Remember, we "forum people" love to say "oil gets thinner when it gets hot".... But, the better way to say it is "oil thickens when you shut off the engine and let the oil cool down".

0w20 is the best for our engine, if you already were going to use 5w20.
