Finally a homeowner, so I want to start doing my own oil changes. I have a 2010 with approx 109k miles. My question is, should I use 5W20 or 5W30 oil? I live in FL if that makes a difference.

In 2011 Ford switched to using 5w30 because they realized the 20 didn't hold up to the turbo engine. The recommendation is 5w30 for 2010-2019 SHOsFinally a homeowner, so I want to start doing my own oil changes. I have a 2010 with approx 109k miles. My question is, should I use 5W20 or 5W30 oil? Thanks for the swift reply Ryan, will go ahead and buy some 5W30 and a Motorcraft filter![]()
NOOOOOO YOU SHOULD USE AMSOIL CASTROL EGDGE IS SHITTTTTTTRyan is correct. I would suggest Castrol Edge in the gold bottle. It works great, and if you buy it and the filter at Walmart it is cheap.
Congrats on the new house.
Thank you! Would you recommend using Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer with a fresh oil change? I've heard good things and bad things.Ryan is correct. I would suggest Castrol Edge in the gold bottle. It works great, and if you buy it and the filter at Walmart it is cheap.

I pay 8 bucks a qt for amsoil lolAmsoil is good. However for the price of one Amsoil Oil change, I can get a oil change of Castrol Edge, a filter, and 5 quarts of Mercon LV for a 5 out and 5 in. I change my oil everything 3k no matter what so....
I use BG MOA, has been around for like 30 years, every mechanic you ask about it will recommend it. And they even warranty your engine if you use itThank you! Would you recommend using Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer with a fresh oil change? I've heard good things and bad things.
I Agree. I use and sell Amsoil, engine trans, gear, etc. But Gold bottle Castrol Edge Titanium is my recommendation for off the shelf oil and I wouldn't hesitate to use. Solid additive pack and retains viscosity well under abuse and longer drain intervals. Used oil analysis on abusive engines (evos, subi's, VW, auto xing) have shown that is stands up very well. The black bottle Castrol Edge is my second choice for shorter drains. UOA's on different engines have show this to be a solid choice.Amsoil is good. Mobil 1 is ok in our engines and is usually cheap.
Penzoil platinum is ok as well.
I vote NO to the Stabilizer. I'm very leery of messing with any properly formulated oil on a good running engine.

. I swear the trans fluid is gold if nothing else they make is. Been running SS ATF since 90k, 132k now. Flawless shifting, firmer and quicker part ant wot shifts in my sho vs fresh Mercon LV. Change every 15k and I save it and use it in power steering and non performance applications. Isn't that, like, the Raman Noodles of oil?I ran amazon basics full synthetic for like 25k miles lol. yolo
