With two weeks to go before Jan and I have to get on the road, this is a last minute checkup of convention stuff:
1. Last day to register for the convention is June 30th! We are setting this date because we have to be on the road several days in advance and we need time for everthing to get to us, and to make copies, get confirmations etc. We may take registrations at the convention, but we don't carry unlimited supplies with us. So if you are planning on coming, don't count on just walking up and registering. We have to plan for a certain number. and can't guess a lot. Thanks for your co-operation!
2. The hotel rooms at the convention rate have now been released back to the hotel. They may have rooms available, but they will be at the regular rate. Still not that bad for California, but about $30 more than we negotiated. We get that rate for getting them the reservations well in advance.
I have ONE room that I don't need, so if anyone is without room (King, no smoking) let me know directly, we can work something out.
My e-mail is: [email protected]
3. The Track event is not sold out, so if you did not sign up, you can still add it, probably at registration if necessary, but you can let me know by e-mail so I can get you on the list. There are forms on the web site that you can print out. This event is a bargain, and if you have wanted to do a track event, it is one of the best and safest ways to get some experience. Even Novice class people usually get all the "experience" they want!
4. We have posted all the track event instructions/forms on the web site. These are the same forms you will get in the mail if you have pre-registered, but you can print them out. Note the safety rules.
5. Track event rules corrections:
a. We ARE allowing quality four-point harnesses, but they must be well designed and solidly mounted. chintzy or bad looking stuff intended just for autocross won't be allowed.
b. The tech inspection CAN be done by the owner, but if you really don't know what to look for, we suggest you get a good mechanic to check the car over. We don't intend on costing you a bunch of money, but we DO want the car looked at carefully by SOMEONE so you know what you are bringing to the track. It is the DRIVER's responsibility (even if you are driving someone else's car) to KNOW the condition of stuff. Our tech at the track will not be able to see things like brake pad thickness, leaks in struts, bad subframe bushings etc. So please check your car over well, or have someone else do it.
c. If you already have car numbers on your car, that is fine, but you still must put OUR number that we assign on the top-middle of your windshield, and on the back door glass. That back door glass can remain up during the event.
d. We are doing LOW speed touring of the track for free for anyone at the track (even if you are just watching and haven't paid to do the track event) at lunch. It will be about 12:15 and last for about 3-4 laps at SLOW speed. Any tires squeeling or people going fast and the entire bunch will lose any track time they have left. For this ONE session, no helmets required and passengers allowed that are not licensed drivers as long as they are legally belted in the car. (please, no VERY young children or babies).
Check the information we send to you for other instructions. PLEASE READ the stuff we send you! If you sent in a registration some time ago, and have not gotten a reply from us, please contact me immediately. Your registration may not have gotten to us. I know of ONe that got lost and another FAX that wasn't readable. (I think we have taken care of both those situations.)
Questions? send me an e-mail and I will do my best.
THANKS to the BAYSHO group and everyone out West that is helping make sure this event happens.
Right now we are over 80 cars and counting! I call that a success in any car club book!
See you all (or a bunch of you) in California!
