My 2015 MKS EB with 40k developed 2 noises and I don't know if they are related or not.

1. Clunking / Clicking noise. I don't hear it often but when I do it's when I start driving after the car set for a while and not every time. Sometimes I can leave it for 2 days and it won't make this noise. It reminds me of the noise the brakes make when you use them for the first few minutes after you car sat in the rain for a few days. Only my noise happens when I touch the gas at low speeds. Every time I press the pedal there's a click/clunk somewhere in engine/ tranny/ front end area. Both at take off and when moving slowly. I cannot pinpoint where it's coming from because every time it happened I was alone in the car. With windows open I couldn't hear anything. And after a few minutes it's gone and I cannot make it on demand. 2 things I tried to do when the noise was there was to rev the engine in neutral - no noise, and to rev it in gear while holding the brake. Also no noises.

2. A very slight rattle in the front end when driving slow over bumpy roads. I thought it could be the sway bar links but last night I took the wheel off and looked at it. It looks ok to me. Tried to move them by hand but couldn't feel any movement. I don't know how good this test is though. Not sure what else to check.

Any ideas? With this kind of noises there's no point to go to the dealer. I cannot demonstrate it and they will not do anything other than a visual inspection which is probably ok.

When you say "clicking noise" - is it multiple clicks within a few seconds? The entirety of your post sounds like a CV joint. But it could be ball-joint/tie-rod related as well.

Most times it's just a single clunk when I step on the gas. Last time I also heard a couple clicks when I continued accelerating right after the initial clunk.

Check the boots on the CV joint boots for tears and/or leaking. Usually, they go bad when the lubrication runs out due to a torn boot.

Check the hubs and brakes also for the clicking sound. See if the strut mounts are properly bolted down. Sometimes they are a bit loose and can cause all sorts of sounds.

I tested it a little more today on a big empty parking lot. There's definitely something loose in the suspension. When going at 5- 10 mph over a lightly bumpy pavement something is knocking in the front end on every bump.

I would guess that is a warn bushing. Should be an easy fix.

Stopped by the dealer, 1/2 hour later the clunk is fixed, they had the part and replaced it on the spot. It was a swaybar link.
