This one is stumping everyone who has worked on the car thus far. I replaced the engine and re-used the 20,000 mile Spec clutch which was working just fine prior. Yet after, it would not disengage after everything was put back together. So it was replaced with a brand new Sach's unit and it slips from the get go. So much so that we disconnected the clutch cable from the tranny and the car will still start in first gear with the pressure plate engaged.

The car is sitting on a lift and we're trying to figure out what the possibilities are here. Any advice?

Yes, the disc were in correctly.

Both clutch sets are currently at a local shop that specializes in clutches and were tested. Both pressure plates are in spec (and the Spec has more clamping force than the Sach's just FYI). And the linings and springs on the disc are good as well. Right now I'm going to take him the flywheel and have it tested bolted up to the clutches to see just exactly if there anything out of spec.

Did you install or the shop . Sounds like install error for sure . Doesn't make sense that with no changes one clutch was grabbing too much never disengaging and one is slipping . Doesn't sOund like a cable Or quadrant issue .

Did you allow time for the new clutch to break in? was the flywheel resurfaced?

The same flywheel was used although I didn't resurface it when the Spec clutch was re-installed. Didn't see a need to since all the components were working fine.

Flywheel was resurfaced the second go around with the Sach's unit. It was slipping right out of the gate although it's not glazed over.

Everything according to the clutch shop is with-in tolerances and both clutches should work normal.

Could it be an internal transmission problem here even though the Sach's went through the gears but slipped and the Spec would allow any shifting yet would transmit the power to the wheels when in gear?

OK guys it's fixed. What we decided was to try the Spec pressure plate with the Sach's disc and it shifts just fine. Must have messed up the disc somehow putting it back in. I don't know how, but all is well.

No way. The hub protrudes so far out that you cannot put it in backwards without it making some serious noises because of the flywheel bolts.

Question now is can I get my money back from the Sach's pressure plate?

It can still be done and has been done by quite a few SHO owners and shops, with the only symptom being a slipping clutch.
