Does anyone here know if any of the 2.5L SLO mtx's had a rod shifter...and if this would fit on an 89 sho? There's only one sho at my local yard and it's a badly smashed-up atx :frown: so i'm stuck trying to get as many decent interchangeable (hardly any) parts off of the SLO's and Sable's. Thanks in advance.

I would think that since the rod shift was only introduced in late 91, that the MT-5's ( which IIRC did not make it past 90 ) would have been cable shift.

If I am wrong, surely someone will correct me.

The one I looked at in the junkyard had a cable shift, but much better than the SHO's.

better? how so? different design or just less worn out? thanks for the reply. Yeah, i wondered about what years the 2.5 mtx was produced but i couldn't find dates anywhere. I just fixed my cable shifter; the bushing inside of the car and also the bushing where the cable meets the tranny under the car...and it feels so much smoother now I really can't wait to get a rod shifter.

Another thought... has anyone out there ever tried using the universal cut-to-length shifter cables that jegs & summit carries? I'm not sure what size the sho's cables are, but if these non-friction aftermarket cables came in the right length would it work? Just curious. Thanks, mike

Newp....ALL combat veterans who have visited the VA hospital should know that quote...along with the poem that's on the pic in my signature....

"...And when he gets to Heaven
To St. Peter he will tell,
'Just one more soldier reporting, Sir,
I've served my time in ****'"

though the Plato one is nothing but the truth...which is prolly why I'm in a hospital...

Looked to be a different design, and one you can get on a print out, from Ford, if asked for a layout of the SHO cables and related parts. They obviously will try to sell you that cable set up [don't know if it will work].

Eh, not likely....nice thing about PTSD....no cure....just "coping skills" as they call it here.
