Hey all - I just got my 94 Opal Frost back after a clutch job which ended up needing a whole tranny (There were holes in the tranny case around the differential). The tranny is from a yard and was told to me to be a good tranny. Everything feels fine - grabs nice - rides nice, but there is a shimmy if I ride out first gear that might last a second and between 2,000 and 3,500 RPM, and it is amplified if I'm on a hill or turning while accelerating in first gear. I took it back to the garage and they drove it and thought it might be one of the half shafts. Any suggestions? Please help, because if this turns into a mystery shimmy - bye bye SHO's (both of em) and I'll have to deal with moving on. Thanks for your help guys and gals!!

First things I would check would be the axle nuts, subframe bolts, and engine mount nuts/bolts. If you didn't have a slight shimmy/shudder before than I would be suspect of anything that has changed.

I would not rule out c/v shafts however, as I have had multiple shafts fail in the manner you describe. If you do end up replacing the C/V's buy good ones from raxles.com - stay away from Napa rebuilds as they do not rebuild the whole axle joint.

Great news ( I hope I'm not speaking too soon)

I replaced both axels tonight - and also was able turn turn down the SFB Bolts down almsot another whole turn??? After I did this and got it on the road, it felt great- no more shimmy!
