OK, I'm getting ready to have my first 60K done on my baby....any suggestions of things to watch out for or make sure to pay attention to?
I'm thinking about taking to Performance Plus in Wisconsin to have it done. My buddy, who has 3 Shos' has taken his there before and loved the job they did.
Any thoughts? Suggestions??
Thanks,
T

Actually don't have the time...and don't have a garage, or a second car in case I screw it up....I've worked on many cars, but I like the option they have...drop it off at night, drive it home in the morning!! thumb
If I had a garage and a second car, I'd be all over it.
I'm planning on building a garage, and getting a second SHO...with the garage I can do that...

Well then, taking it to a good SHO mechanic is your best bet then. You may want to get Performance Pluses opinion based on the condition of your car. You can bet on plugs, wires, intake cleaning, valve shim checking, timing belt, acc belts (if there worn), maybe a water pump, and all the gaskets that go with above. Other things that sould be check are fuel pressure and the fuel pump, motor mounts, sub frame bushings, coolant hoses, vacumm lines, and any other general maintance items. You should throw an oil and filter change and an ATX service (if so equiped) in just because its already in the shop.

T,

Where in Cincy are you? I've got a house (or is it a hizzy?), garage, tools, etc. that you're more than welcome to use. I'm in Monroe, just north of town. If you have some mechanical abilities we could do it in a weekend. If I have to explain everything to you we could be in trouble doh

For what it's worth, I took my '93 to Performance Plus for it's first (to my knowledge) 60k service. I was so impressed with Doug's service and professionalism I can't even describe it. And it's still a better value than the "other Doug" in Atlanta, in my opinion.

I truly appreciate PP having a "cheaper" 60k and letting the customer add bit and pieces of additional work to the bill as needed.

If you ever need a spot to do some work on your car, or just want to get together and shoot the s***, let me know!

Whatever floats your boat. If you've got money spend it. I dont' have the money and couldn't resist the urge to unbutton the yamahammer and learn how everything works. One thing to look for are shoddy mechanics. You need to do your research and print out the list of the 60k service. If you take it to performance plus you probably don't have to tell them anything. They know their stuff from what I've heard.

Like Hayden said, make sure that if you take it somewhere, it's a shop that knows about the SHO's and what's involved in a 60k. Call around, talk and talk some more to people in your area and ask all the questions you can. In the long run, it'd be to your benefit to 60k your though since labor for us adds up quickly and it'll get you more comfortable with your car. Basically, it might be worth it to lay off the throttle for a week or two and set sometime aside, especially if you've got someone that's willing to help you out. I think I read a post here that said the best performance upgrade for your car is to be able to work on it yourself.

If you're an aspiring mechanic, I suggest you do the work yourself. The sense of accomplishment you receive after knowing the job was done correctly is priceless. For everything else, there's Mastercard.
