Hey all, Please help.

I was driving along and all of a sudden, there was loss of power, as if you put the tranny in neutral. There is nothing in any gear. There was no warning and absolutely no noise as if something gaveway. The throwout bearing made no noticeable noise. The clutch was replaced 30000 miles ago. This car is babied, no hard running at all. When you press the clutch pedal, there is tension as expected. I dont think the clutch cable would have broke? I have not taken it to the shop yet, I had to get a tow to my place.

I thought I would start here to get some ideas to see if it is worth fixing. It seems that a new clutch is gonna be around 1000 with labor and parts, ouch!

Thanks for any help!

So when you push in the clutch, put it in any gear, and engage the clutch it revs up as if it is in neutral?

That is correct. You put it in gear, engage clutch and nothing. You can rev the motor as if it was in neutral. I would have thought I would have heard something if something really bad was going on??? I cant believe the clutchplate would just shred,,, There were no slippage symptoms prior to this. It happend driving at highway speeds and NOT during a shift. The car was in 5th gear. The car is not abused or driven with spirit at all. (wait, isnt that a crime?)

Can you feel it (in the shifter) that it goes in gear? The shifter might be LIKE its in but it wont ingage because of a failed TOB that passed through.

If it does feel like its in gear Might just be a topped CV shaft. They usually go bad on a drag strip though.

Might as well be a broken tranny boss brace , where the rod shifter attaches to.

Let us know.
