Im from long island, NY. Ive had a 1991 SHO sitting in my backyard thats been off the road for 8 or so years and I wanna get it back on the road. It ran great before the clutch line and linkage broke. Its been sitting ever since. I just recently went back and started cleaning up the inside and digging it out. The tires surprisingly hold air and the engine is fairly clean. Its a 3.8L. What should I be doing to get the engine running again? Also if anyone could suggest a clutch kit? Budget is $300 and I plan to do everything in my driveway. Im trying to get pictures but theyre all too big so ill try to get them up later. The SHO in question is my profile pic :D

Drain & replace all the fluids and filters. get a new battery. I wold consider inspecting and lubing the slider pins on the brake calipers. cross your fingers. That's a long time to sit. If it starts and runs after all this time then I would consider new gaskets and seals. That's a long time to sit for any rubber parts on the car.

Get familiar with RockAuto.com for your parts, including your clutch kit.
Don't fall for any 9 1/4" clutch kits, always look for the 9 3/4 kit.
Try to get some **** like automatic tranny fluid down the spark plug holes, in fog form, and roll it over manually if possible.

What I like with a sitting SHO is the plug well gaskets usually are faulty....now you have oil sitting on your plugs greatly reducing chance of stripping.

Get good jack stands and ramps if your gonna do a clutch in your driveway.

Just recently fired up a 99 that for 6 years almost 10k so far....one caliper locked and i got a small coolant leak. Not bad.

You can't **** a gen I or II SHO engine they are awsome. Follow previous post info and it'll be fine. My tip change all 4 brake hoses. Welcome aboard!

Is the clutch linkage still broken? If so, www.shosource.com has some specialty ends for both cable and rod shifters, depending on which you have. If there are serious issues, post in the want to buy section to get replacement parts.

Which metal? The cables or the calipers? My car had sat for five years, one outside and four inside, and my calipers were completely frozen. Ended up just replacing them after breaking a piston retraction tool on the driver side caliper.

Piggybacking on Devins post I would unhook the ebrake cables from the calipers and see if the calipers are operating properly and go from there. You can temp go without the ebrake, less so without good rear calipers.

This may be unnecessary info, but remember that the rear pistons turn in and out for the E-brake. Do not try to compress them. You will need a special tool that slots into the piston. I had not seen that style until the early '90's when I did the first brake job on one of my SHO's.

I put a battery in and the car didnt even try to start. It just clicked. All the lights were working, however. Could this be the starter?

May sound stupid, but did you have the clutch pushed in? If so, it could be the the wires to the starter, the solenoid, fuse box, wiring, ecu, starter...

After sitting for 8 years, I'd be checking wiring first. Rodents seem to love the stuff.

Solenoid is easy to check. Short across it with a screwdriver (you will need a second person to be in car and depress clutch).

Also make sure the clamps on the terminals are clean and making a good connection. I changed out a starter one time, and found that it was just a bad connection at the battery.
