Be careful when purchasing your gen 3 SHO!

I purchased a 1996 sho last march in southern Illinois. The seller a dealer told me he had rebuilt the car because of a cam failure he replaced all the four cams with nos ford un welded cams. Just recently I tore down the engine and to my surprise only one rear cam had been replaced and I had a front cam gear taking a walk! Be careful when purchasing your Gen 3 SHO! I have a friend that has purchased two gen 3's and was told that cams where welded on them and found they weren't on later inspections. If I was to buy another I would want to see the cams before I put anything down.

Short of a receipt and pictures from a reputable cam welder verifying that the cams have been welded, or a visual inspection, always assume that the cams aren't welded.

You can pretty much assume if the cams are welded or not if you talk with the owner for a while. If he doesn't know shit about tearing it down, then it probably isn't welded. Unless.. he brought it to like NeSHO or FPS and had them do it, but they do reciepts so.

Good point that I forgot to ad. I have SHO friends that have had their cams welded by reputable people who photographed the cams welded with car vin on a piece of paper. This would suffice also.

Yeah, ummm, that's pretty much nonsense. :shakehead

I could introduce you to a couple hundred people at least who know that there cams are welded but who would probably have a hard time figuring out how to open the hood.

It's right next to the Franistan valve, which is directly below the Gonkulator.
