Rat chewed some wires... w/ pics.

So he climbed up onto my motor while the car was in my garage for the winter and decided he was hungry for some automotive wiring.

He severed the DIS plug from the rest of the wire that leads down into the intake (the rear plug only has 6 inches of wire attached to it now). I can't really see or feel where it's coming from.

Another thing he chewed right through is the fuel line that goes to the back of the intake. Hopefully somebody will be able to tell from the pics which fuel line it is and where it leads. Also, how am I going to go about replacing this DIS wire? Does anybody sell it or is this a junkyard job?

Let me know what you can see... and yes, that is infact birdseed strewn across my intake manifold...

they really need to find somethign else to dip wire in, i mean really they have to be able to find something else they can use. They dip wire in veggie oil to make the coating adhere better and spread evenly, which is why those sob's chew it cuz they smell THROUGH the wire My dads friend works at a place that makes some of that wire and thats what he said, i thought it was interesting.

Wires in a house such like NMD-90 tasty really nasty because rats were eating them too, causing fire and killing the rat by the same occasion.
They should do it for car wirring too.

You need to either eliminate or properly store the bird seed, otherwise you will be dealing with this problem again. A 20- to 30-gallon galvanized trash can and lid works well, but the presence of the seed will still attract rodents (there's food there and they know it). I left the lid off a 30-gallon galvanized trash container one night and found two mice scurrying around inside the next morning when they could jump back out . . . .


You'll either need to get a harness from here or the salvage yard. The fuel line is a solid line from the fuel filter near the right-rear wheel to the engine. The line has long been discontinued - not to mention was well over $100 when it was available. The lines art not hard to pull from a salvage yard SHO if it is elevated. Get the entire line - tank to engine - in case the rat found a few other select places to spend the night chewing away . . . .

Alright, thanks for the help so far.

Tonight I will try and take some more descriptive pictures...

As for the bird seed; It is now in a locking container.

I didn't mention that there were about 5 mouse traps under the car, all with peanut butter on them. I put 4 of them right beside each tire and one right under the motor.

Realize there's a lot of subframe to jump-up on, the backside of the front bumper, etc.

Any idea how long of a time frame in which this occurred? You may also be dealing with more than one.

This actually happened a while ago. I'd say early January.

We're pretty sure it/they are gone because we put a peice of cheese at the back of my garage. It was gone the next day. Then we put a peice of cheese with lots of poison on it... lots... next day it was gone. Now the cheese hasn't moved for a few months; Even though we put fresh cheese in the traps every week.

It also got the alternator wire on my Grand Prix and an ABS/ESC wire on our 07 Sonata (All three were in the garage at once).

I'm trying to remain as calm as possible about the whole situation.

well since it seems automotive wire is the only wire that still uses vegetable oil it must be. However honestly im not sure this was a few years ago

Can you find out - I've been looking for a good source for all the various wire color-code combinations that meet **** specs for some time . . . .

What you need is the lines going from the fuel rail to where they bolt to the rear valve cover, the lines from the engine compartment back should still be good.

I wouldn't make that assumption, especially given that the rodent got all three vehicles. It's highly possible he hasn't found all the damage yet. There's a lot of well-hidden space on top the SHO's fuel tank, as well as a four-wire harness leading to the fuel pump.

As I stated before, if you're going to pull those fuel lines from a salvage yard SHO, I would get all the lines. Until you've fully inspected the car, you have no idea what other damage has been done. The fuel line is a solid line from the fuel filter near the right-rear wheel to the engine. Even though it appears only the fuel rail line is damaged in this case, you'll have the added time and cost of a second trip or additional shipping charges if you have to subsequently buy the lines from the engine back. You'll also have the cost for fuel line disconnect tools. If the mouse/rat chewed through other sections of the fuel line, you'll be ready versus another week or two of down-time.


Also, I'd pull the intake to look for other damage. The fact that the mouse/rat got to all three vehicles, indicates the rodent spent some time in there, munching away.

I think tomorrow I'm going to take off the intake. I've been wanting to for a while but its been far too cold to stand out there let alone work with tools...

...and as far as other, unseen, damage goes... I'm hoping and praying that this is the extent of it...

Alright, well, now I'm fairly ****** off... Damage is a lot more than I thought. Several wires are completely severed, under the fuel rail is an absolute mess of wire shavings and bird seed, AND he got the plug wires... I don't think this car is going to be driveable for some time...

Excuse me for a second...mother@#%^ ass@#$% son of a @#%^ rat....













I hope this rat died a very very slow painful death...and it takes a lot to make me wish death upon anything...
