So yes, i've searched headliner removal threads etc, but this hasn't been addressed from what I've seen. I don't have a sunroof, and the interior center/dome light thing is smack dab in the middle of the roof, with seemingly no way to un-attach it from the roof so that I can remove the headliner. Any suggestions and/or previous experience in this?

hmm, im trying to remember how I did this in my explorer. If i remember correctly, I think you pop the lens off, and remove the bulbs or something and there are screws behind that.

Ok, i got it. it was getting the lens cover off and the screws underneath. It was just figuring out how to get the lens cover off on mine which was the confusion (it looks like it is one piece with the grey plastic surround).
I was able to get the headliner out without removing any of the seats, too, which was nice. Just had the front seats in full recline, and pulled it out the driver door. :thumb:

The clear lens pops-loose from the rear. Then remove three phillips-head screws. Wiring is "attached" to the sheetmetal and two of the phillips screws goes through the harness ends to provide power and ground.

Actually, to get the lens cover off of mine, I had to squeeze the ends creating an opening in the middle sides, jam a flat-head screw driver in there and pop it off that way. There was nowhere else to insert a screw driver to pop off the lens.
