A/C Low pressure charging valve Q

Ok: first, I did search. I didn't find anything that specifically helped, though it is apparent that rangerj has firmly established himself as an A/C guru!

Anyway, My wife's 95ATX seems to have developed a leak at the low side charging port. The port itself is way bigger than a schrader valve, but nevertheless that's how rangerj described it. Is it possible to replace just like a schrader valve core? It doesn't look like one when I look at it. There's a big rubber thing in the way... can you get that out with a pick? I'd try but I don't wanna f**k anything up yanno... or am I gonna have to replace the whole dryer/tube assembly? Yeah, I mean I probably should, but I'm broke and that's a lot of work... anyway, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

not all low side ports are like a shrader valve. Some are just a check valve that seats against a rubber insert, thoes are not replaceable. Try quickly depressing the valve, quite often there is a piece of dirt causing the leak, if that does not work, the pipe with the low pressure port will need to be replaced. If the port is like a shrader valve, it unscrews just like one but is a bigger size.

yep^^ push down the ball and let some freon and oil rush out that should flush any dirt or other debris.

hmm, yeah, didn't read this in time: we destroyed the rubber. It had a huge tear in it to begin with (well, huge for the valve, I guess). So, the valve is completely hosed now. Can it be hoes tiem nao pleas?
