Getting rid of cigarette smell?

When I changed the cabin air filter yesterday before this process, I noticed this thing just hanging in front of the cabin filter door. I did see it when I first changed the filter back in may but forgot about it. Any idea what it is?

Ah, OK. I didn't know that was a thing. Can't miss it if it was broke when I got it! Thanks for the info.

I replaced mine - they detach or break easily after a tech rips open the door. It slows the glove box door from smashing open

Is it difficult to replace and is the part costly?
