Yes, turn radius would increase as well but scrub radius is something different. Let me know if this link works:

So increasing this with spacers, wider rim or lower tire height would hurt handling.

For the record, my Gen 1 has been on 245/45r16 Toyo Proxes T2 for years now, lowered (Tokico/Eibach) with old 16” MiM wheels and twin piston PBR’s front / big brake kit rear with rolled rear fenders. It used to rub one of the front fender liners at max steering turn-in but that went away (clearanced itself? Haha).
Just swapped the fronts to 205/55r16 due to availability and cost (8.1” wide vs 9.6” wide). Next time I am going back to the 245/45, since the extra width makes a huge difference in high speed corners.

I don't see where anyone is running 235/55r16 on stock 16" Slicers? That size keeps the same height as stock size, but with a little extra width. Anyone know if these would rub? '93 SHO all stock

I run 225/55/16 on all my 16" wheels. 235/55/16 might rub in the rear of a Gen1 but should be perfectly fine on a Gen2.

235 on a 6” rim will compromise performance versus 225. Unless you find them on deep discount, I would recommend 225/55.

I am looking at getting rid of the slicers on my '90 and moving to aftermarket. I found some 17x7.5 with a 45mm offset, running 225/45ZR17 Michelin tires. Any thoughts on fitment? Ride height is currently stock. Any help would be appreciated. I'm terrible with tires and wheels.

Pulled the trigger. Earlier last week the rep said they would fit, but today said that the width is a little bigger than they were comfortable with, but *should* fit. Apparently I can return them if I don't drive on them, but hopefully that won't be necessary.

+45 will probably be too much backspacing for a 7.5" wide wheel. You might end up needing a 5-6mm spacer to clear the struts and then you might need longer studs in order to get proper bite with the lug nuts. Extended thread lug nuts should probably be used if spacers are required.

My personal guide for SHO backspacing

7" wide +35/38
7.5" wide +40
8" wide +42/45

Might be beneficial to try it out on the alignment rack. They may not be happy with the idea as it ties up their rack for a tire job but, if you put it on there, you can roll the car forward and backward to allow the suspension to settle and you can pull the pins on the front turn-plates so that you can turn the wheels lock to lock to check for any interference.

You can get stuff that look nice and not notice the spacing issues until you get full suspension compression at speed. Then you can notice it hit the strut perch. Get the confirmed spacing from owners and then choose the wheel style and tire. GenI's are even more problematic clearing the rear fender

Thanks. They're actually an inch shorter than my old tires so my speedo is much more accurate.

My old tires definitely needed to be retired!
