I read in instruction manual that normal gas tank volume is 16 gallon but there was option of extra large tank at 18 something gallons. How to i tell what gastank i have on my car, any spesific code in VIN i can read?

Run it close to empty and then fill it up?
Unfortunately this is the only way to truly know. The v6 SHO was supposed to get the 18.5 gallon tank but several ended up with the 16. My 91+ had a 16 in it and I swapped in the 18.5. When the light comes on you should have around 4 gallons left in the tank. If you keep track of your mileage then you should be able to run it pretty low and then fill it up.

Since manual states that 18 gal tank was an option, that can`t be seen anywhere in options code or VIN? As per today i parked my SHO with fuel gauge on the last bar before red zone with fuel gauge flashing. That means i have 4 ish gallons left, whis is about 15 litres of fuel?

That’s good to know, Irish. My 2013 light comes on pretty much exactly at “50 miles left.” 4 gallons is a lot more than that, esp on the highway. The amount I can pump is less than what I’d estimate. The interpretation is that the light and the readout are over-conservative. Probably a good idea!

just carry some fuel in the trunk when you run out fill it up and subtract
Funny thing about country i live in, you might get a ticket if you let your car run out of gas and cause traffic jam or something. So i would not try to run my car empty of gas, its expensive as it is for the gas, a ticket is just rubbing the salt in the wound :)

The 18 gallon tank that was supposed to be standard but started getting left out on mostly 1995s assembled from random parts. The fuel tank type is not listed on the window sticker as even a feature. Maybe on the build sheet that was under the back seat - and on top of the gas tank.

You can treat it like a 16 gallon tank and go by the fuel gauge readings. The extra fuel will cool and prolong the life of the fuel pump, and also prevent hill or cornering problems with fuel. I've put nearly 16 gallons in before but never run out.

Filled the car up today right when gauge dropped a bit below last bar before red zone, filled 14.79 gallons. So it seems like i have 18 gal tank.
