For those of you that tune with HPTuners, we are excited to announce that we just completed a new firmware update with Eric at HPTuners to address many of the holes in the 2013-2017 SHO strategy files.

You can download the new BETA and re-scan your pcm to see the updates, including several transmission updates, fuel system updates including changes needed for HPFP upgrades, AWD control upgrades, and more.

AWD control... hmm...

Why are 2018/2019 SHOs any different?

They had some strategy changes, and for some reason when engineering created them they unlocked a lot of new things and just never rolled it back to the previous versions. Finally got them to do that.

Yea I haven't dug into it yet. But it's supposed to allow for bias within the tune. He said, I quote, "this should give you everything you need to burn up the AWD system, be careful."

ugh...I've been contemplating switching to HPTuners for some time now, but I asked Brad about it and he was honest with me that he isn't as up to speed on them like he is with SCT. I also asked him about tuning the AWD system and it appears this isn't possible with SCT? Is that correct? So with this, we can start controlling torque biasing front-to-rear? I really don't want to change tuners as I really like Brad but being able to tune the AWD is pretty appealing to me...

So you would like to turn the explorer into a drift machine huh?. Sounds like hp tuners is the way to go in the very near future.

Lol, no, not really, but I think there may be some gain in being able to adjust some of the biasing...maybe give it a bit more toward the rear (or at least more than stock) for off the line? Idk...just spit ballin' here.

Spit balling is always a good idea. I have absolutely no idea what the torque bias is at launch between front and back, but if we are able to do at least a 50-50 it would change everything.

Idk about the SHO, but the XSport has a Sand Mode that has 50/50 torque biasing, but the shift tables suck. I've done alot to try and use it while at the track, but the car doesn't like switching into normal mode while WOT, lol. So just the other day, I had Brad copy the shift tables for Normal Mode over to Sand Mode and see what happens. Haven't taken it out yet, but interested to see how it does...

I need to rescan my car and see what's updated. I was going to do it earlier but my car is doing battery save mode. Might be time to warranty this battery (again). It struggled to even do a KAM Reset this morning then gave a "check charging system" error.

That’s crazy, so the torque biasing and the shift strategies are that much different between the vehicles? I wouldn’t have ever thought that, do you believe hp tuners and Ortiz tuning could help you into the 10’s?

idk...I've never done well with change (got the same barber for years and I've had Sprint for the last 16 years even though I hate them, LOL), so changing from my man Brad is a difficult proposition...right now my goal is the 11s, but 10s once I get this motor in, better IC setup and a few other mods might be a worthwhile goal, LOL...

IDK @FiveLeeter918, what is your opinion?

Also, FiveLeeter918 could the explorer sport tuning strategy be adapted to the SHO platform? That would allow for higher rear wheel acceleration on launch, such as what would happen in “sand” mode.

I'm hoping that's what he activated, he said "im going to mass update them all, gonna add more shit first. Gonna blow SCT out the water.. taking all the new shit ive added to mustang, and other platforms... will even have all the injection modes and shit. spent a lot of time on that recently, just takes a while to get to add to older shit. 327 params added"

How much does your sport weigh with you and, say, 1/4 tank of gas?

So you guys have "Sport" mode. The XSport doesn't, just an "M" (manual mode), but we have a terrain management system that changes a bunch of parameters (not sure all of which). There's Normal, Sand, Mud/Ruts, Snow/Gravel, and Hill modes. Sand Mode is the most interesting though...

I’m an avid sand ******, with sand dunes about 2 hours from me and a side by side along with a Jeep Wrangler. You need high power off the line to really make it interesting. So that “driving mode” is of upmost interest.

Unfortunately we have bad experiences when customers try to jump from long standing relationships, as there is that subconscious expectation that things will instantly improve, where we are starting from scratch compared to a multiple revision tune.

Like most tuners, we prefer the customer to grow with us so we aren't playing catch up, but I'm down for whatever I just need full dedication to getting it dialed in, bouncing between tunes makes the learning curve a little steep haha.

haha yeah, I'm not a sand dune guy...but the low end torque biasing 50/50 is something that might prove useful if I can take advantage of it...

its right around 4700lb with me in it and some gas...

Not to pull Sm105K into it, but I think he is knocking on 11’s at around 4400lbs. And he has considerably less done than you do at this point. Not to mention what you have in store after the motor transplant and a PTU that can handle a beating.
