Those who have the DW300c LPFP installed...

...I'm getting ready to do this. I already have the fuel hanger with the pump installed, just need to put the thing in the tank (I just bought a new hanger assembly and put it together).

My question...how difficult was it to drop the tank? Any pointer? I'm sure there are some differences with my platform, but should be similar.

I'm really thinking about cutting the top from inside and making a cover plate to facilitate future access (or even for the initial install), but not sure how feasible it is.

Any thoughts?

Doesn't look like it, but that may be the case on only my xsport...if so, I guess that makes this question moot, lol.

In my SHO it was accessible underneath the rear seat and had no issue doing the swap with the tank in the car. Explorer however....

Damn...lol...I was reading the service manual and it says to drop the tank, which means removing the driveshaft and the exhaust and all kinds of other stuff...

So let me ask this then. That access cover, is it rubber or a metal cover? I wonder if I can buy that, then cut me hole and use some nutserts to hold down that cover. Unless it's a weird shape that has various contours....nobody has easy access to that cover? Maybe see a Ford part number on it..I might do some research and see about making my own access hole, lol.

It's plastic with a seal on the outside of it. Oval shaped.

Yeah this is what I'm thinking...I might get ahold of that plastic cover so I can size it for that. I'll have to do some research on getting a part number on it.

Just incase that isnt a casting part number I'll check my body shop computer tomorrow for the number to double check.

So I spent the afternoon taking out that second row seat, carefully peeling back the carpet to access the floor there and seeing what I can see so I can possibly MAKE a hole there...I think this is VERY possible (mad scientist laugh....)

The number on the access door is indeed an engineering number, talked to my ford rep, current part number and price below!

Awesome, I might scoop that up, but the way it looks, the shape I'll have to cut may not allow me to use it. Luckily it's very flat and I can easily fabricate a cover plate and cut a gasket to seal. It's just going to be an odd shape as I need to make sure I steer clear of seat mounting points. I've got the 2nd row captain's (?) seats, not the bench, and they flip foward, so rear latches are critical mounting points, but I think I can still get to it without effecting those.
