SHO vs Mustang

I like the Vette. It's got nothing to do with the fact it's cheap. It's just nice, and it's positioned to make a real run at being an American Exotic, and joining the Viper and the GT as the American Exotics. And its a first year car. Those little build issues will go away.

But you don't like it. That's fair. I dig it.

I'm gonna go tap this PTU now that Ford's s-s-superior engineering department said had a lifetime fluid trapped inside it. Right next to a hot-ass turbo. And downpipe.

Is that PTU in a stock vehicle? Was
the SHO was designed for a purpose.. if so did they think anyone would modify them. .Also mine was never changed and I had no issues and that was driving it hard. Although I do admit they failed by making them police cars.....but I kinda like having the odds on my favor if we were engaged in a high speed run....lol

I like the 60s and 70s vettes. You can like em all if you wish. Just make sure you lose that exotic term loosely.

I dont even consider the Viper in the same category as any exotic unless you are just comparing track numbers.

Every one has their own opinions and favorites. I honestly believe that makes the performance Industry thrive.

At the end of the day, competition is good, hopefully the mustang has some soon.

My original statement holds water.

My SHO tune only (E30, plugs, and K&N drop in) went 12.56 (E30) which was more than enough to run with a A10 car at the track. Haven't lost to a Mustang in the street light to street light Grand Prix either. I don't discriminate either. I want to race every make and model when I drive it.

I haven't been back to the track with DP's, my Custom Exhaust, TQ Mounts, Wider and Lighter Wheels, and new tires. I figure she should go bottom 12's now. That is more than enough on the street to whack new Mustangs...esp if they they are on street tires. Which 95% are.

I agree with you about the street part...but the track? You know stock mustangs are hitting 11.9s consistently right? It would take a pretty bad driver to drop that to the 12.5 range.

Speaking of Mexico stop light drag racing. I've been lighting them up myself 0-80ish. As long as I remember to engage 4wd before trying to launch at 2k.

Also have to use 4wd at anything below a 60mph roll.... damnit man.

It is rare to see a Mustang get into the high 11's here, esp on a street tire. In Phoenix we have other factors that is not present in other areas.

Fuel: Our 91 octane is trash. I run E30, so I usually have better fuel. +1 for my SHO.

Track Conditions: It is hot here, so the track is usually slick and hot. Most Mustang owners like to do big burn outs, which street tires don't like. They spin. My SHO cuts consistent high 1.7's to the 60 foot even in the heat. Usually when I leave someone really hard, they panic. +2 for my SHO.

Track Altitude and Density Altitude: These are crucial esp for the the N/A guys. In Phoenix, our track altitude is higher then most others 1135 above sea level. I think only Bandemere in CO has a greater elevation. Add the heat, usually complete dog crap DA as the time of this post (https://airdensityonline.com/track-results/Wild_Horse_Pass_Motorsports_Park/) sits at 3458 feet. I rarely see anything under 90 degrees and under 3000 DA. +3 for my SHO.

Not all cars run the same. We all know this. Also even a stock mustang isn't the easiest to drive. Our cars are pretty much point and shoot...so it takes the driver mod away.

So when I say, I can usually wax a new A10 Mustang I am serious. If they are on a Drag Radial it makes it harder, but it is doable. Now the street is easy pickens.

haven't seen a stock a10 run under mid 12's at our track (firebird) in the boise area. I run 12.5's but have not had one to line up to yet. the non a10's run 13.0 to 13.3 here.

The base Vette is barely losing to highly modified Mustangs, both of which cost more - I don't think it's remotely close to a fair comparison. The Vette is the better car, period.

And by the way, I respect your opinions, but you can't talk me out of this. Haha.

I love the Viper too, and that falls right into my American car wheelhouse.

As far as swaps and whatnot, I refuse to cross manufacturers. I have a couple of swaps on my project list, and they all use engines from their families. LS-swapped Caddy, 3.5EB-swapped MKZ track car, Coyote-swapped Town Car.

To each their own. I love me a good Franken car. Fastest street legal track car I ever saw was a Porsche 944 with a 383 stroker under the hood. That thing hauled, and held turns for days. I'd be afraid to drive it, lol.

That I can appreciate. I’m a fan of Motorsport. Although I’m strongly Ford biased, I don’t hate on or lack appreciation for work that goes into all makes of builds. But turning out a cross dresser is just taboo in my book. If I walk up to a ‘32 coupe at a car show and see the distributor in the back, I keep walking.

Also the argument that Camaro and Mustang are equals needs to die. It sucks that GM doesn't spend enough time and development to make the Camaro a worthy challenger.... So basically GMs finest competes with Ford's second best...
That 5.0 Ford has been putting GM bigger displacement motors in their place for decades....but if you look at the R&D behind it, you know why. What's the Chevy equivalent to Roush?

The problem with the came to is, ever since they swapped from the solid axle to the IRS, that car has had an identity crisis. Track car designed to hold turns? Weekend warrior at the drag strip?

No one knows, least of all Chevy. At least now the C8 is mid engine, so buying a camaro isn't just buying "a heavier corvette".

This I agree with. I'll bet my paycheck that the C8 is gonna be loaded with grimlens. And corvettes have not been modifier friendly since the 6th gen.

I can't find any Callaway vettes on dealer lots.... Although I saw half dozen Roush mustangs last time I was in Baltimore at the dealership. Even saw a bunch of Roush parts last time I was at the dealership getting an alignment.

Shelby and Roush are so close to Ford, they are Ford. Can the same be said of Callaway?

Even if you get a Callaway Vette, you still have that sh*tbox interior. Although if you are fighting with your mistress, she can't climb that wall. LMAO
