Your build is also inspiring for me in many ways. Your "outside the box" thinking and clever planning yielded an 11.08 quarter mile pass out of a stock motor with stock turbos! It's absolutely insane!!

Equally inspiring to me is how your handling the loss of the engine failure. Like BPD you just knuckle down and keep pursuing your goals, albiet a new route. Everyone eventually will fall, "take a knee" at some point in our lives....its how you handle that loss/setback that shows your strength.

I was very much looking forward to seeing you break the 10 second barrier! Still am!!!!!! Looking forward to watching you meet your goals.

So I mentioned I spoke with an engine builder that is knowledgeable in ecoboosts that Ryan recommended. Parked the car during work and talked with him for the better part of thirty minutes and he seems to know his stuff about these engines. So far what I have gathered is it's going to be a little bit more pricey for the things that I want. Looking to be around 5k not really including shipping too and from. I'll be honest with you guys. I don't make great money, but money has never been an issue where I have been worried about bills. So ponying down this cost is going to be a big undertaking for me. HOWEVER, I just keep telling myself it does NOT have to be done today, tomorrow or the next day. I have all the time in the world. So that being said the list of things that will probably be done:

CSS closed deck
Rods
Pistons
New OE crank

So realistically the rods are the weakest link in the formula and end up taking out the crank 99% of the time is what the engine builder said. So I will be looking to get another crank most likely. Upgrading rods and pistons in the mix, but staying with stock crank because talking with him it seems like with my power goal, which I already achieved really, the stock crank is up to the task.

I'll be pulling the motor myself (well shouldn't say myself as I have a great set of friends who will be helping me along the way) so that saves myself a huge chunk of change over sending the car over there and having them pull the motor etc. I'll start putting the car back together probably next week as I have some family obligations and what not this weekend, but then the teardown begins. I am going to go buy some of those car dollies at harbor freight so I can slide the car around the garage so it's not taking up the entirety of the garage like it is now LOL. Then send the motor out to get built up.

Car may be stopped, but life goes on!

Maybe I'm a cheapskate but I get most of my rebuild parts from junkyards. I'd be getting some raptor piston rods and crank if I was you.... But I'd get them from the limited F-150 for cheaper pricing lol.

I've been offered a set of used pistons that I am 80% on using lol. Said they check out, but it's hard to say with aluminum but they held way more power than I ever would produce so it's definitely being thought about.

Also I've been thinking....would a 2.7 Ecoboost swap be possible? Those things are nuclear bomb proof!

I'd have to agree, not sure what a used crank goes for, but since the Limited and Raptor share the same version 3.5L, you'd be getting peace of mind at the very least. And you'd feel a bit more confident if you ever decided to go beyond the power levels you're currently considering. Especially the Gen2 version of the crank. Anyway, budgets are always a consideration so I totally get it. Projects like this can stack up quick financially, LOL.

This will not be a popular opinion.

Get another engine, do the water pump and turbos, maybe drill the intake to accept runner injection nozzles and install in car.

Wait for opportunities to come to you. Keep a lookout for Raptor parts, or sell-offs from other peoples projects that have gone sour.

You sound like you are capable of doing a rebuild yourself (as well as anyone you are going to pay). Beware of "wizzard" engine builders.

In the local circle track stock car racing, lot of guys have gone for the glamour engines from revered engine builders. And suffered humiliation when the performance was less than they received from their local shade tree shop.

For what it is worth.

Nah, that's smart - if it already exists and will work for the application, what's the point of paying more money for it? I like to do a ton of research about compatibility between engines. There's a ton you can achieve by just swapping heads and rods and pistons and whatnot from one thing to another.

Someone needs to do a F-150 head swap so the SHO can have better cams and fueling.... wait what?

There must be investigation on this matter. But we're still stuck on the tranny. Until that can be upgraded properly, there's no point in reaching for more power.

Yep and these transmissions are not cheap, and neither is the labor to replace them.

Technically, if we know what's breaking in the tranny already, we should be able to have those gears or driveshafts or whatever it is (I haven't researched this any) custom made. Yes, that costs and we'd probably never get them made en mass, but if we had a communally-available spec sheet for the parts that need upgrading, each owner could have them made per application.

The Trans shop by my work has already rebuilt one of these trannys with custom 1 off parts. Apparently built for around 800whpish said the rebuild is around $2.5k. Figured it was worth looking into, but I probably won't pull the trigger until either something breaks or I get a fuel pump. Not making enough power in my mind to warrant paying for a trans rebuild at this point!

Would that shop be willing to part with the info pertaining to what parts were actually upgraded and how? I'm thinking they won't because they'd probably love the $2.5k (which I'm sure includes alot of labor, not just parts) for themselves, but might be worth asking at least.

Once we make big power, you will have to have a better transmission case. You can put as much money as you want in the thing, but.....

S***, at the point where I'm looking at that HP, I'd be fine just sending it to MN and letting them keep their sekrit infoz.

I am wondering how custom that job and parts really are.
